According to reports from Page Six and Us Weekly, Kelly passed away from natural causes at age 69 after spending the final week of her life in hospice care. The actress reportedly passed away peacefully at her Idaho home in the early morning hours of May 30.
Kelly’s passing was first announced by Jamie, who shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram post over the weekend. The Oscar winner described her sister as her “first friend and lifelong confidant” and remembered her for her beauty, talent and distinctive personality.

Coroner Confirms New Details About Kellyâs Final Week
According to the Blaine County Coroner’s Office, Kelly passed away at approximately 2:30 a.m. on May 30. Per Us Weekly, hospice caregivers had been assisting her during the final week of her life, and her husband, filmmaker John Marsh, was present when authorities arrived at the home.
Officials confirmed Kelly’s passing was due to natural causes. She is expected to be cremated, although it remains unclear whether the family will request an autopsy.
Jamie shared the news publicly on Instagram, writing, “A warm aloha to my older sister, Kelly Lee Curtis. She passed away this morning. In her home. In nature. At peace.”
The actress went on to remember Kelly as “jaw droppingly beautiful” and praised her many interests, including music, travel, family, nature, thrift shopping, Facebook and Pokémon Go.
Jamie also shared that her sister was affectionately known as “Auntie Cookie” because of the powdered almond crescent cookies she made every Christmas.
In the comments section of the tribute, journalist Chris Connelly remembered Kelly from their high school years, describing her as a “cool breeze of fresh air” who immediately stood out among her classmates.

Born June 17, 1956, Kelly was the eldest daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. She graduated from Skidmore College, worked as an actress in New York City and became a member of the Actors Studio. Per People, her credits included “Trading Places,” “Magic Sticks,” “The Devil’s Daughter,” “The Sentinel” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”
Kelly later moved to Idaho with her husband, filmmaker John Marsh, where they founded Liberty Films and produced documentaries about local artists and the surrounding landscape.
Jamie also recently shared never-before-seen photos from the night before her 1984 wedding to Christopher Guest, when Kelly served as her maid of honor.
Reflecting on their relationship, Jamie said the sisters spent years apart but ultimately grew closer over time.
“We were wildly different and lived apart for many years, but she came back to be with me at my wedding and never really left again,” Jamie wrote.
She ended the tribute with Kelly’s signature farewell: “Isten Veled,” a Hungarian blessing meaning, “God is with you.”
