Expectation is mounting for a Resident Evil reveal at Summer Game Fest, as Capcom drops Resident Evil 4 remake to its lowest price yet.

It’s only been three months since the launch of Resident Evil Requiem but Capcom is supposedly gearing up to reveal the next entry in the survival horror series.

While we’re no doubt several years away from the next mainline instalment, as Capcom works on story DLC for Requiem, there have been rumours for some time that the next game will be a remake of 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica.

There’s been no confirmation of the remake’s existence yet from Capcom, but it seems we might be hours from its reveal, according to a notable Resident Evil insider.

This comes from ScreenFire Germany, who accurately leaked that Resident Evil Requiem would be revealed at last year’s Summer Game Fest. Now, he claims there is a ‘99% chance’ that we’ll see Code: Veronica at this year’s show.

In the video, he states it would be 100%, but he’s covering his back in case something is postponed or changed at the last minute – which is common with first party showcases but not when Capcom has presumably already paid for a slot in the event.

In the comments, he’s also teased that he’s received some kind of tip off about the game’s reveal, replying to comments about the high percentage with various smiley emojis.

While it’s worth taking with a pinch of salt, ScreenFire Germany was the first to claim a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica exists in the first place, which has since been corroborated by others. So if anyone would know, it’d probably be him.

Additionally, fellow insider Dusk Golem has highlighted how 2023’s Resident Evil 4 remake is currently 75% off on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S right now, priced at £8.74, which is its steepest discount yet. While Resident Evil games are often discounted, he claims these major price cuts often happen before the company announces a new game.

‘Resident Evil 4 remake is having its steepest discount ever across all storefronts its on,’ they wrote on X. ‘Toooootally not because they about to announce a new Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake tomorrow, totally not…[sic]’

He added: ‘Capcom usually does big deals on relevant titles timed across all storefronts in a very specific way (deepest discount to date, times across all platforms, around big events) to get sales off new announcements, so yeah.’

If it is all true, we have only hours to wait, as Summer Game Fest kicks off later today at 10pm BST.

Code: Veronica isn’t the only rumoured Resident Evil remake, with reworks of Resident Evil Zero and the original 1996 classic, which already received a remake on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, also supposedly in the pipeline.
