A shelter-in-place order in south suburban Lansing was lifted Thursday afternoon despite an ongoing manhunt following an earlier shooting at an automotive paint manufacturer.
Lansing police said the shooting occurred at the Nippon Paint Automotive Americas in the 2700 block of 170th Street around 1 p.m. and they found a 48-year-old man dead at the scene. His name was not released by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The male suspect was last seen south of the scene as “numerous” law enforcement agencies worked to find him. Nippon Paint didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
A shelter-in-place order was lifted at 4:10 p.m. but police urged people to “be vigilant” as the suspect remained at large.
Police said the suspect was a man, average in height, weighing about 160 pounds and wearing a black hoodie and do-rag along with a white surgical mask.
“We are reminding residents to be vigilant,” Lansing police said in a statement. “If you see something, say something. If you see someone who matches the description, call 911.”
