Disneyland license plate seeks DMV approval after ‘tremendous interest’
Disneyland fans have spoken and their overwhelming love for the Happiest Place on Earth has prompted California state officials to move forward with plans for a specialized license plate that pays tribute to the Anaheim theme park.
The California State Treasurer’s Office has received “tremendous interest” from more than the minimum required 7,500 fans and will advance the proposed Disneyland license plate through the California Department of Motor Vehicles application process, according to Mickey Visit.
“The strong response we have received so far has been incredible,” the California State Treasurer’s Office wrote in an email to Disneyland fans.

California State Treasurer Fiona Ma said on Instagram that more than 44,000 people had expressed interest in a Disneyland license plate. That number has since grown to 48,000, according to state treasury officials.
The treasurer’s office announced plans in early May to launch a Disneyland-themed specialized license plate that will raise money for children’s hospitals throughout the state.

The application for the Disneyland license plate will now move through the DMV review process following the successful preorder phase of the project, according to the treasurer’s office.
The California treasurer’s office and DMV will reveal the design and launch presale orders in the coming months.
The specialized Disneyland license plates will cost $50 for a standard plate and $103 for a personalized plate on top of the $40 to $83 annual DMV renewal fee.

Proceeds from Disneyland license plate sales will benefit the 13 children’s hospitals in California that treat kids with medical conditions like cancer, congenital heart disease and cystic fibrosis.
The Walt Disney Company donated $100 million in 2018 to support 1,700 children’s hospitals in 45 countries around the world.
The annual CHOC Walk at Disneyland raises up to $3 million each year for Children’s Hospital of Orange County and has raised more than $40 million over the past three decades.

Disneyland has had a long relationship with CHOC that dates back to before the hospital opened when Walt Disney served on the founding board and helped secure funds for construction.
Today, the hospital features Disney-designed touches that include an 18-foot-long lobby mobile and a Turtle Talk with Crush attraction similar to the show at Disney California Adventure.

Florida released a Disney World specialty license plate in 2021 featuring a silhouette of the Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle.
