High surf advisory for Los Angeles County beaches until Thursday evening – breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet foreseen
Catalina/Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches are under a high surf advisory which was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 2:34 p.m. The advisory is in effect until Thursday June 11, at 8 p.m.
The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA informs, “Large breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet, except 8 to 12 feet along Malibu. Dangerous rip currents.”
“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
