Former event security guard found guilty of 2022 Red Line shooting

A former event security guard has been convicted in the fatal shooting of a 60-year-old man on a CTA Red Line train nearly four years ago, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

A jury found Issac Anderson, 30, guilty of the Oct. 15, 2022 slaying of 60-year-old Oral Woods; he faces 48 years to life in prison, the office said.

In previous hearings, prosecutors said after 6 a.m., Anderson was captured on CTA surveillance video moving to a seat beside Woods on the Red Line train near 87th Street, and grabbing his backpack before searching it and taking a bottle of Pepsi. He then threw the backpack at the man and kept the drink.

Anderson moved to a seat across the aisle, where he drank some of the Pepsi before throwing the rest of the bottle at the man, who then stood up from his seat, prosecutors said.

The recorded video didn’t show the man holding anything in his hands when Anderson allegedly reached into his pocket, pulled out a revolver and shot the man five times before fleeing; Woods was taken to a hospital but later died, prosecutors said. Anderson was arrested four days later near the same CTA station.

He is set to be sentenced July 9.
