It’s become a running joke that Apple TV is creating the best shows that no one’s ever heard of – and for good reason.
Aside from the rare few shows that break through into the mainstream, like Severance and Ted Lasso, the vast majority of the streaming giant’s star-studded selection comes out without much fanfare and collects a small but dedicated following along the way.
That’s exactly what’s happened to Apple TV’s sci-fi series Silo, starring Dune’s Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar winner Tim Robbins, which is about to release its third series.
For those unfamiliar, this post-apocalyptic show, based on the Hugh Howey novels, goes as follows.
‘In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo.’
And… scene.
For those who have tuned in, the show has managed to utterly enthral them, raking in rave reviews after rave review and making itself a standout among other heavy post-apocalyptic hits like Fallout and The Last of Us.
Over in critics’ corner, three seasons in, Inverse called it a ‘masterclass in post-apocalyptic sci-fi’ while Collider hailed it ‘thoughtful, gripping, and beautifully made, it sets a new standard for what prestige sci-fi can be.’
And as Slashfilm urged: ‘There’s never been a better time to get on board with this show before it comes to an end.’
Over with fans, they’ve also not only been blown away by the calibre of the show, but left baffled by how slept on it is.
‘Twists, turns with an amazing cast drawing you into this world. Suspense and intrigue keep you watching. One of the best shows in years,’ Paul J praised on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘A refreshing post-apocalyptic thriller, no zombies here. A great insight into the human condition,’ Dom C agreed.
‘By far one of the best TV shows out there. I mean, come on, the plot rules, the sound design is illustrious, and the story is magnetic. It just does it all well,’ Benjamin P declared.
‘Fantastic performances and direction, I binged the whole lot [because] I was always left wanting more. A pressure chamber of secrets and assumptions where the grass is always greener,’ Dan F shared.
Silo series one and two are available to stream on Apple TV Plus now. Series three premieres on Friday, July 3.
