Murder charges have been filed against a 33-year-old Gary, Ind. food delivery driver accused of fatally shooting a man working at an Amazon plant earlier this week in south suburban Matteson.
Devonta D. Hodge, 33, was charged with murder after the death of 26-year-old Dylan Perkins and was scheduled for a detention hearing at the Markham Courthouse, according to Matteson police.
Police responded to a call of shots fired about 10:55 p.m. in an employee parking lot outside 7001 S. Vollmer Road, an Amazon fulfillment center that is open 24 hours, police said.
Hodge became embroiled in an argument with Perkins, who worked for a third-party vendor at Amazon, and fatally shot him before fleeing the scene, Matteson police said.
The death of Perkins, who died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police did not offer a motive for the attack.
