Mike Johnson Is “A Deeply Dishonorable Gentleman” Says Conservative Ex-DOJ Attorney

House Speaker Mike Johnson

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) continues to criticize members of the Democratic Party, including Democratic Socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, by mislabeling them as Communists as he tries to keep his party in control of the House months before the 2026 midterm elections.

On Monday, Johnson wrote on social media: “The contrast could not be clearer: Republicans are for COMMON SENSE, and Democrats are for COMMUNISM. We MUST protect the greatest country in the history of the world from Mini Mamdanis.”

[NOTE: Warning Republican voters about what he says would happen if Democrats take control of the House, Johnson said at last month’s Faith and Freedom Coalition conference: “If we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats, y’all, impeachment’s not even the big concern. They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they’ll go after the president’s family, the cabinet, his donors and friends, half of you in this room will be targeted.” Numerous Democrats responded asserting that Johnson was projecting, noting that his description matched what a Republican Congress did to Joe Biden.]

Veteran of the conservative movement Gregg Nunziata replied to Johnson’s post maligning the Democrats as communists, writing: “A deeply dishonorable gentleman. Just a disgrace.”

Nunziata added, “Does the @SpeakerJohnson really believe that half his colleagues and half the country are *for* a murderous anti Christian ideology? If not, does he not see how wildly irresponsible and corrosive it is to say so for electoral gain?”

[NOTE: Nunziata served as Chief Nominations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, as policy counsel to the Senate Republican Policy Committee, and later as general counsel and domestic policy adviser to then-Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), after serving in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.]

Nunziata wrote: “Any true statesman, especially a Christian, especially a conservative, especially a lawyer, should have a sense of stewardship, @SpeakerJohnson appears to have no such sense. No decency either.”

He wrote: “Communism is an evil, blood-soaked ideology that hates God and man, inconsistent with democracy and the American way of life. If @SpeakerJohnson really believes this is what the opposition supports, how far will he go to prevent it from taking power? Will he respect elections?

If @SpeakerJohnson doesn’t *actually* believe half his colleagues and fellow citizens are godless, bloodthirsty, totalitarian threats to America, why in the world would he think it ok to say that for electoral gain? How could he justify that as a Christian or a conservative?”
