Earthquake near Desert Hot Springs in Riverside County detected – magnitude 3.3 on Aug. 1

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CALIF. — A preliminary 3.3 magnitude quake occurred near Desert Hot Springs, about 60.4 miles west of Riverside, on Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor shook the area at 9:51 a.m. It occurred at a depth of 5 miles with the epicenter about 11 miles east of Desert Hot Springs.

Past week’s quake

A single magnitude 2.5 earthquake was centered in the region. The event was registered close to Beaumont on Jul. 27.
