Pierce College announced Monday that it has placed its football program on “hiatus” for the 2026 season.
The school’s statement did not address whether the team will return in 2027.
Pierce players were told about the school’s decision Monday morning. They were encouraged to look at other programs if they want to play in the upcoming season.
Pierce College’s football program has failed to produce a winning season since 2013 under Efrain Martinez.
The team’s current coach, James Sims, did not respond to requests for comment.
Pierce College is known for having produced the likes of former Chicago Bears quarterback Erik Kramer, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jimmy Allen, former Houston Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong, CFL quarterback Nick Arbuckle and actor Mark Harmon, who was a star quarterback at Pierce and UCLA.
