The “need for speed” takes on a new meaning on the wrist with the latest Bulova x Shelby timepiece, a handsome watch honoring five decades of the classic Shelby Daytona Coupe.

Immortalized on the track as well as in 2019’s Ford v. Ferrari, the muscle car customizer, racing juggernaut and all-around road legend Carroll Shelby and his estate now partner for a second time with the American watchmaking force that is Bulova. The first collaboration was called a “muscle car for your wrist” by the likes of HiConsumption. Bulova, the preferred timepiece brand of legends like Frank Sinatra, now honors the dynamic force, power and handsome design of the Daytona Coupe, using “details drawn directly from the commemorative aluminum-bodied vehicle,” as the watchmaker notes. In fact, Shelby’s Daytona Coupe could even become the most valuable American car ever sold.

Played memorably on the big screen by Matt Damon, the hard-charging Shelby changed the game on the road in matters of American motorsports, while Christian Bale’s British racing driver Ken Miles brought ferocity and power to the role in the box office smash. The latest wrist game hit between Bulova and Shelby honors the game-changing design ethos of Carroll Shelby via five decades of the Daytona Coupe through a durable, sleek stainless steel case design. The automotive innovation now gets a further lift through the inner workings of Bulova’s proprietary high-precision quartz movement, along with its racing-inspired build.

The watch attempts to rev up and faithfully recreate the build of the Daytona Coupe itself, the watchmaker noted, with design cues that evoke the aluminum body of the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe. With sub-dials inspired by the car’s dashboard, the Bulova x Shelby Racer Chronograph boasts a split-finish stainless steel bracelet and also comes with an additional brown padded leather strap, while its quartz 262kHz movement offers what the watchmaker calls “exceptional accuracy.”

The lineage of Carroll Shelby and his company’s innovation in the world of automaking live on through this timepiece, priced at $1,495 and available now through Bulova, both companies note.

“Fielding the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe in 1965, Shelby became the only American car company in history to win the prestigious FIA Sports Car World Championship,” said M. Neil Cummings, Esq., Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Carroll Shelby Licensing. “Shelby’s innovative design, robust engineering and reliability earned a crown that changed the perception of the American auto industry. Those attributes are built into Shelby vehicles today, as well as this new Bulova watch that celebrates an incredible car and achievement.”
