Hagen Smith, the White Sox’ second-ranked prospect, is making his major-league debut after a rain delay Sunday against the Guardians.
The Sox drafted Smith fifth overall out of Arkansas in 2024. This season at Triple-A Charlotte, Smith is 1-6 with a 4.32 ERA in 20 games (14 starts). In 58 1/3 innings, he has allowed 39 hits and 40 walks with 87 strikeouts. Smith has held hitters to a .189 batting average.
Smith, the 51st-ranked prospect in baseball, was called up Saturday with right-hander Tanner McDougal, the Sox’ fourth-ranked prospect. Both began the season as starters in the minors but will pitch out of the bullpen for the Sox. They’ll return to starting roles next season.
