Hollywood actress Anna Faris is challenging her son’s religious beliefs after he asked her to become Christian.

The Scary Movie star, 49, shares a 14-year-old son, Jack, with her ex-husband Chris Pratt and in a new interview has shed light on her experience raising him as he turns to religion.

In fact, Anna explained that she’s been actively pushing back against his religious beliefs as he follows in his dad’s footsteps, with Chris being very open about his devout religious beliefs.

‘He is religious. I didn’t grow up with religion. He’s asked me to accept Jesus Christ [as my saviour],’ the actress, who didn’t grow up religious, said in a new podcast.

She continued on Chelsea Handler’s podcast, Dear Chelsea: ‘And I told him I would do anything for him, including this, but it’s going to take a whole lot of long conversations.’

This has included pushing back against certain beliefs and provoking debates with her son, who she praised as ‘solid as a tugboat emotionally’ and able to give as good as he gets.

‘He’s impressive, actually. Because I try to challenge him. I’m like: “Do you think it’s a luxury that you get to be pro-life? Do you think that’s kind of a luxury?’’

‘And he’s like: “Maybe.” Or I’ll say: “What do you think of this mega pastor that’s kind of a grifter?” And he’s like: “Oh, mega pastors are the worst.” So it’s like: “Okay, he’s getting there,”‘ she said.

She added that she is ‘appreciative that he’s examining religion the way he is in terms of recognising hypocrisy.’

When the couple welcomed son Jack in 2012, he was nine weeks premature and suffered from a severe cerebral haemorrhage, with the Mom star previously revealing she and her ex-husband were ‘so scared’.

In 2014, the Marvel star also shared that it was Jack’s survival that ultimately ‘restored his faith in God’.

‘We were scared for a long time. We prayed a lot. It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it,” the actor told People.

And while accepting an award in 2017, he told the crowd: ‘I would not be here with the ease and grace I have in my heart without my lord and saviour, Jesus Christ.

‘God is real. God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe that, I do. Learn to pray. It’s easy, and it is so good for your soul.’

Anna and Chris divorced in 2018 and, soon after, the latter married Katherine Schwarzenegger, who was also raised Catholic and for whom faith is a big part of her life.

In 2025, Chris – who shares three children with Katherine – told The Christian Post: ‘I care enough about Jesus to take a stand, even if it costs me. It could cost me everything, but I don’t care. It’s worth it to me because this is what I’m called to do, it’s where my heart is.’
