A man who was allegedly wielding a shovel and attacked several people early Tuesday, Sept. 1, in San Fernando was fatally shot by police, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 12:40 a.m. in roughly the 200 block of North Maclay Avenue, near Third Street.
Anthony Miranda, the interim San Fernando Police Department chief, told reporters the man had a shovel and advanced on officers.
“During that encounter, they discharged their firearms,” the interim chief said.
The man died at the scene.
Miranda said the man had attacked or tried to attack people, including one person who was inside a vehicle.
It’s unclear if anyone was seriously injured.
