Donald Trump ‘wants to rename entire US state’ and it’s ridiculous
The US president insisted the name would be ‘much more prestigious and beautiful'(Picture: EPA)
Donald Trump has already ruffled feathers by trying to rename the Gulf of Mexico and one of the Great Lakes.
Now, the president has set his sights on rebranding another part of the map.
In a ridiculous post to Truth Social, Trump has now suggested that New Mexico should be renamed New America, adding that ‘many people’ had suggested the change in the Democratic-leaning state.
‘So much more prestigious and beautiful for the people of that potentially incredible State. Wow, I Love It!!!’, he wrote.
His words were accompanied by an AI clip of himself changing the word ‘Mexico’ on a state border sign to ‘America’ before dancing in front of it.
It is unclear whether the post was meant to be serious or satirical.

The new name of the body of water straddling the American-Canadian border is supported by less than 15% of Americans, according to a poll.
But an executive order imposed by Trump requires it to be adopted by federal agencies and organisations, with the change now reflected on Apple and Google Maps.
Last night the president also shared another map labelling the Strait of Hormuz as a ‘new US territory’.
Since returning to power in 2025, Trump has repeatedly floated the possibility of taking over international territories.

He has talked of making Canada the 51st state and absorbing Greenland as part of the US.
One of the first acts of his second term was to unilaterally rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.
On Sunday, Trump appeared to hit back at opponents of his new place and landmark names, producing a list of things allegedly renamed by ‘the Left’.
These included Columbus Day, renamed Indigenous Peoples’ Day in some states, and the term ‘undocumented noncitizen’ used in place of ‘illegal alien’.
