Chicago Fire Department personnel found a person dead on the Chicago Transit Authority Red Line tracks near 69th Street on the South Side Monday afternoon after responding to a call, officials said.
A spokesman said an individual was found dead when they responded to a call of a person on the tracks at around 2:36 p.m.
Chicago police said a man whose age was not immediately known had jumped from a moving CTA Red Line train and was incapacitated when he landed on the third rail.
The man was later struck by an oncoming train. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
CFD could not immediately provide additional information about the circumstances of the incident.
The CTA issued an alert at 3:35 p.m. notifying riders that Red Line trains were running with major delays after a medical emergency on the tracks near 69th Street.
Bus shuttles were made available from 43rd to 95th streets in both directions to supplement service in the affected areas through 4 p.m., a CTA alert said.
Police said Area One detectives are investigating.
