SUV driver sought in fatal hit-and-run on Sherman Way in Van Nuys

Authorities were searching Saturday for a suspect in a fatal hit and run in Van Nuys.

One man was struck by a dark-colored SUV traveling eastbound on Sherman Way, just west of Sherman Circle, around 3:45 a.m. Friday, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.

The victim, described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, the LAPD said.

The driver of the vehicle fled the area in his car, the LAPD said.

Another driver who witnessed the collision pulled over on Sherman Way and contacted authorities.

Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact Valley Traffic Division Officer Reyes at 818-644-8114 or Officer Lozon at 818-644-8117.

In 2015, the Los Angeles City Council created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund, where a reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s apprehension.
