Gerry Turner must have thought getting his story out would shore up his image. He certainly tried to make himself sound better than his ex-wife, the winner of Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor, in his recently released memoir. There is just one major problem with his story; Theresa Nist claims it is all fiction. Moments after Gerry Turner’s much-anticipated memoir dropped, Nist sat down for an interview and outlined several stories he included in his book that she says are pure fiction or, at the very least, a very creative take on a real interaction. We’ve collected three stories from Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV that Thersa Nist says are figments of Gerry Turner’s imagination.

Theresa Nist says she never asked Gerry Turner to sleep on the couch

Gerry Turner certainly tried to portray Theresa Nist in a negative light in his memoir, but she is telling a vastly different series of stories. In a recent appearance on Dear Shandy, Nist broke down some of the more outrageous tales in Turner’s book. Nist alleges that most of the stories in the book about her were either compeltely fabricated or at least greatly exaggerated. She spoke about many of the things he said in his book, but Nist was especially offended by Turner’s claim that she kicked him out of bed.

In his book, Turner claims he visited his then-wife in New Jersey and was pushed out onto the couch because Nist had a busy day at work. Turner claims Nist refused to sleep next to him and made him feel like a burden in her “tiny” home, while he remained agreeable. Nist explained what she says really happened during her podcast appearance. According to Nist, Turner offered to sleep on the couch after Nist said she hadn’t slept well the evening before. She said she never asked him to sleep on the couch, and she certainly didn’t “refuse” to sleep next to him. She told hosts Sharleen Joynt and Andy Levine that she had even purchased new furniture to better accommodate Turner during his next visit. A next visit never happened.

The Jersey resident claims she never suggested farm land should be turned into Starbucks and Lululemon stores

Gerry Turner attempted to portray Theresa as shallow and unyielding in his memoir about his time on The Bachelor. He tried to illustrate her “East Coast mentality” by recounting an argument the couple had early on. In the book, he said Nist suggested Indiana would be better served by using farmland to construct “Starbucks and Lululemon stores.” Turner claims he schooled Nist on the importance of farmland to the Indiana natives, but she wasn’t hearing it. She tells a much different tale.

The “farmland story” was kind of infamous even before Turner’s memoir was released. During an episode of Almost Famous several months ago, Ben Higgins said he had heard Nist and Turner had a falling out over “cornfields.” While they clearly had an argument about farmland, Nist insists Turner exaggerated and turned nothing into something. Nist said that she mentioned, in passing, that an open field she saw from the car could be used for townhomes. She said she had no idea it was farmland, that a single crop was not growing at the time, and that she apologized for making the statement immediately. Turner, on the defensive, became agitated, according to Nist, telling her that farmers would rather “sell their daughters” than give up their farmland.

She says she never sent him multi-million dollar real estate listings

In one portion of his book, Gerry Turner delves into the couple’s hunt for a home base together. Before departing from the Bachelor Mansion, Theresa and Gerry insisted they would be house hunting together in South Carolina. Following their nuptials, they doubled down on the plan, insisting that a home close to the shore was in the cards. It never happened, and Turner claims that it was all Nist’s fault. In his book, the Indiana native proclaims that he sent his then-wife multiple listings for homes. None of them worked. He claims that she hated everything he picked out, sending back real estate listings that were millions over their budget. Gerry claims Theresa sent him $4 million homes to consider.

Theresa Nist admitted that one thing about Turner’s story was true. She said she did hate everything he picked out, but she insists the price tag had nothing to do with it. Nist told Joynt and Levine that Turner was selecting rural properties because they had large garages. She wanted to be close to the action in Charleston, sending listings closer to town. As for the pricetag, Nist insists her former spouse is exaggerating. She said she sent him listings in their $1 million budget. She insists that nothing she sent Turner was listed for anywhere near $4 million.
