8 films premiering at London’s buzziest festival this summer

After its inaugural edition in 2025, SXSW London is back in the capital this summer to celebrate all things movie, music and technology with a stacked film line-up.

From June 1st – 6th 2026, East London will host the first screenings in the UK of 17 films, including three world premieres, as part of the festival’s Screen Conference.

There will also be the return of influential talk series Screen Keynotes, this time with Bafta-winning actress and writer Sharon Horgan, Doctor Who head honcho Russell T Davies and Tom Quinn, founder of Oscar-winning US indie film company Neon, all sharing their pearls of wisdom.

Movies on offer to fans via festival screenings include a Marco Pierre White-helmed documentary, a flesh-eating horror and a drama revolving around forgotten baby syndrome.

As befits its international focus, 22 countries are represented among the confirmed movie line-up for SXSW London so far, including Mexico, Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Columbia – as well as host nation the UK.

Feast Or Famine

A world premiere, this documentary follow’s highly-regarded local restaurant Angelina as it chases its first Michelin star, and is narrated by culinary icon Marco Pierre White – the first Brit to earn three of them, before famously giving them back.

He’s on hand to ‘demistify the Michelin myth’ to those of us on the outside of the fine dining experience, pressing our noses to the glass and licking our lips.

The Remedy

A son?s desperate attempt at keeping his mother alive leads him to making sacrifices in more ways than one in this stylish gothic horror. Jason (Timothy Granaderos) is desperate to keep his mother alive by any means, so when a not-dodgy-at-all scientist (played by genre icon Doug Jones) sells him an unconventional remedy promising to heal and extend the lifespan of anyone who takes it Jason is in. While the remedy works, it also gives Maria an insatiable appetite for live meat ? and Jason must provide. Meanwhile, his sister Rachel senses evil and turns to spells to expel it from their home. The siblings, while both desperate to keep their mother alive, clash over their approach, discovering what is truly haunting their home and their family. The second collaboration between director Alex Kahuam and writer Daniel Kuhlman, The Remedy is an unflinching and increasingly unhinged journey between reality, nightmare and family trauma. Sold as a ‘stylish gothic horror’ from American director Alex Kahuam and writer Daniel Kuhlman, The Remedy is another of SXSW London’s premieres.

Starring legendary creature actor Doug Jones (The Shape of Water, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) alongside Timothy Granaderos, London Thor and Jenny O’Hara, a son’s desperate attempts at keeping his mother alive lead him to make sacrifices in more ways than one.

The titualar so-called miraculous ‘remedy’ may promise to extend someone’s lifespan, but it also leaves the patient with an insatiable appetite for human flesh.

All Night Wrong

All Night Wrong Director: Jason James Cast: Zach Cherry, Maria Bakalova, Emily Hampshire, Tyler Labine Severance?s Zach Cherry and Borat?s Maria Bakalova go down a spiral of murder, lies, and (almost) sex in this riotous comedy. On one fateful night, Gary (Zach Cherry) and Eli (Maria Bakalova) decide to take their brief dating app exchange into real life. When they meet at a bar, things move fast, and soon the duo is at a roadside motel ready for your regular one-night stand. But nothing about their night is regular as they find themselves driving the car of a possible killer, lugging a dead body, and running from the police while carrying a mysterious suitcase filled to the brim with dirty cash in this fast-paced, anxiety-inducing Canadian comedy. The third world premiere is Jason James’ riotous, anxiety-inducing comedy starring Zach Cherry (Severance) and Borat and The Apprentice’s Maria Bakalova.

All Night Wrong serves up a nightmarish first date when Gary (Cherry) and Eli (Bakalova) progress their dating app match to a real-life meet-up in a bar.

But their one night stand plans are soon thwarted when they find themselves driving an apparent killer’s car – complete with a dead body in the back – and fleeing from the police with a suitcase of dirty cash.

On The Road

On the Road This sensual Venice winner trails a young sex worker who falls in love with an older truck driver while on the run. If Beat writer Jack Kerouac met the erotic spirit of Alfonso Cuar?n?s classic Y Tu Mam? Tambi?n, the result would most likely resemble David Pablos?s searing erotic drama, produced by famed Mexican actor Diego Luna. Set in the little-explored queer scene of long-distance truck driving, On the Road follows rebellious hustler Veneno (Victor Prieto Simental), who makes a meager living by trading sexual favors at a roadside diner. His life goes from stationary to transit once he meets trucker Mu?eco (Osvaldo Sanchez Valenzuela), with the two rapidly embroiled in a dangerous chase as Veneno?s past threatens to catch up with them. Described as a fusion between Beat writer Jack Kerouac’s work and Alfonso Cuarón’s modern classic movie Y Tu Mamá También, On The Road follows a young sex worker working out of a roadside diner who falls in love with an older truck driver while on the run.

Victor Prieto Simental plays rebellious hustler Veneto and Osvaldo Sanchez Valenzuela is trucker Muñeco, with their lives upended by the trouble following in Veneto’s wake.

From director David Pablos and produced by Star Wars actor Diego Luna, this Mexican movie won the Queer Lion at Venice Film Festival in 2025.

Father

Father Slovak, Czech Director: Tereza Nvotov? Cast: Milan Ondr?k, Dominika Mor?vkov?, Dominika Zajcz, Martina S??kov? How can society punish a man who?s lost everything? It?s a big day for Michal (Milan Ondr?k) as the new CEO of his company is coming to visit. It also happens to be one of the hottest days of the year. Michal heads to the office after dropping off his daughter at daycare. All of the above are in fact the gaps in memory and what unravels throughout Father is the dizzying depiction of one man?s life-changing fatal mistake. As Slovakia?s official Oscar submission of 2026, director Tereza Nvotov? builds a world of overwhelming chaos with an idyllic family at the centre of it. Inspired by real life tragic events, Milan Ondr?k delivers a career best performance as a man left with both impossible grief and an incomprehensible guilt. (ISRA AL KASSI)

From director Tereza Nvotová, Father was Slovakia’s official Oscar submission for 2026, which premiered at Venice, and tackles the unimaginable pain of forgotten baby syndrome.

Inspired by real life tragic events, Milan Ondrík plays Michal, the father at the film’s heart, who heads into the office one morning as the new CEO of his company, on the hottest day of the year, after dropping off his young daughter at nursery – or so he thinks.

But gaps in his memory cause fatal consequences, and he’s left unravelling with guilt and grief in this searing and chaotic drama.

Maddie’s Secret

Maddie's Secret Director: John Early Cast: John Early, Kate Berlant, Kristen Johnston, Vanessa Bayer, and Chris Bauer. Comedian John Early?s first film is a tragicomedy about a foodfluencer struggling with bulimia. Known for his signature offbeat delivery, comedian and actor John Early?s directorial debut delivers as much snark as it does heart. He stars as the food influencer Maddie, struggling to balance her aspirations for a career surrounded by food with a years-long eating disorder she?s kept secret from all those closes to her. Perhaps hardest of all, Maddie?s Secret handles the horror of bulimia with startling clarity, bringing to light the shame, control and self-destruction that underpin binge-eating and purging. American comedian John Early has made his first film with Maddie’s Secret, which he also stars in alongside Kate Berlant, Kristen Johnston, Vanessa Bayer and Chris Bauer.

The tragicomedy follows food influencer Maddie (Early) as she struggles to balance her career ambitions alongside a battle with bulimia that she’s kept secret even from those closest to her for years.

Heavily inspired by John Waters, the movie was widely praised out of its premiere at TIFF in the autumn for walking the delicate tightrope between comedy and drama.

Little White Lies has called it ‘a sincere and surprising comedic triumph’ while IndieWire dubbed it ‘one of the boldest American movies in years’.

Sicko

SICKO 101 Minutes Kazakhstan Khazakh, Russian Director: Aitore Zholdaskali Cast: Ayan Utepbergen, Dilnaz Kurmangali A young couple makes a dangerous fortune by faking cancer in this biting Kazakh thriller Set in the sprawling Kazakh metropolis of Almaty, this blood-pumping thriller follows Azamat (Ayan Utepbergen) and Tansholpan (Dilnaz Kurmangali), a young couple who are recently married and terribly broke. When violent debt collectors knock on their door, the two hatch up a plan with dangerous consequences: to fake Tansholpan?s terminal cancer to rack up donations. When the scam goes viral, the two find themselves embroiled in a dangerous web of lies that gives this fast-paced, stylish social satire about the throes of capitalism and the underbelly of social media a razor-sharp edge. Sicko is a sharp Kazakh thriller about a young couple who make a dangerous fortune by faking cancer.

From director Aitore Zholdaskali, newlyweds Azamat (Ayan Utepbergen) and Tansholpan (Dilnaz Kurmangali) are so broke they decide to set up an online fundraising campaign for his pretend terminal diagnosis to keep the debt collectors from their door.

But when the scam goes viral, they find themselves trapped in a dangerous web of lies in this biting satire.

Intelligence Rising

Intelligence Rising Director: Elena Andreicheva Cast: Marc Warner, General Patrick Sanders, Patricia Geli, Skype Jaan Tallinn, Lucy Lim, General Stanley McChrystal, Pippa Malmgren, Yuval Noah Harari Leading global authorities join AI expert Marc Warner for a war-game exploring how artificial intelligence might reshape power. Much has been said about artificial intelligence's effect on fields such as the creative arts, but we are only now beginning to experience the geopolitical consequences. Intelligence Rising chronicles a bold experiment: some of the world?s most prominent thinkers in politics, military strategy, philosophy, and technology gather to play an intricate wargame designed by Marc Warner, a founder and leader who's been at the frontier of AI progress for 15 years. British AI documentary Intelligence Rising sees leading global authorities join expert Marc Warner for a war-game exploring how artificial intelligence might reshape power.

Moving away from AI’s influence on the creative arts, Intelligence Rising instead explores its impact on the geopolitical front, with some of the world’s most prominent thinkers in politics, military strategy, philosophy and technology weighing in.

Together with director Elena Andreicheva, the likes of General Patrick Sanders, Skype Jaan Tallinn, Google DeepMind’s Lucy Lim and Yuval Noah Harari issue a stark warning to viewers.
