If the closing-in nights have left you hankering for some summer escapism, Amazon Prime Video might have dropped their new fixer drama at the perfect time.
Starring Jesse Williams – known to most as the one and only Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy – the Amalfi Coast drama Hotel Costiera is set around the titular luxury hotel and promises a blend of action, comedy plus romance, so nearly all the bases are covered.
The six-parter was given a fairly quiet release on Prime, but has secured a spot in the streamer’s ranking of top 10 film and TV since.
Williams plays Daniel De Luca, a retired Marine who has moved on to become a crisis manager of sorts for the hotel, attending to the whims of the fairly demanding guests who check in.
However, as ever, his fairly humdrum existence is disrupted when the hotelier Augusto (Tommaso Ragno) finds his daughter Alice (Amanda Campana) has vanished.
Then, to make matters worse for the guests and the hotel’s reputation, a severed hand washes up on shore. (It’s clear the show is going for a White Lotus vibe.)

Daniel is a man of connections in the local Italian town, which is set against the incredibly gorgeous cliffs of the Sorrento Peninsula, and the show soon settles into a mystery-of-the-week format as he takes on one problem after another.
The show has totted up an 86% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with many viewers already asking for a second season after tearing through the six episodes on Amazon.
They’ll be happy, because Williams has already said it’s something he would be up for – after all, who would say no to taking your job to the Amalfi Coast?
‘With all the madness going on in the world right now, we just wanted to do something that was light and bright and could just give you a break,’ he told TV Insider.
‘You could just put it on and it’s six episodes. You can binge it at your own pace and just knock it out.’
What other thrillers can you stream now?
- Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue. What it says on the tin. We flashback to try and work out who the nine bodies are.
- Angela. This has been racing up another top 10, over on Netflix. A pulpy thriller where everything isn’t quite as it seems.
- Wayward. Set in the seemingly idyllic town of Tall Pines, home to an academy that’s a supposed haven for ‘troubled teens’.

He added: ‘If people are responding really well all over the world, if people love it as much as we do, we’d love to keep telling stories.’
And, right on cue, Amazon viewers have been sharing their love for the show over on X, with many singling out Williams’ performance as the jack-of-all-trades fixer.
Safae Megzari tweeted: ‘Worst thing about Hotel Costiera is that all 6 episodes are up and I can’t get enough!!!
‘I need season 2 like this second please and thank you! Also Jesse Williams is absolutely phenomenal in it and the entire thing is so pretty and fun and action filled…my cup of espresso fr!’
Meanwhile, @chocolatestar72 awarded the show five stars, writing: ‘I’ve said for the longest that Jesse Williams would make an excellent James Bond and his role as Daniel De Luca in Hotel Costiera has proven my point.’
Jesse Williams you are just everything in Hotel Costiera!! Trying not to inhale it too quickly,’ gushed @Aerealren.
Hotel Costiera is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
