Alec Baldwin smacked a woman’s phone away after she repeatedly asked him to say free Palestine and taunted him about Halyna Hutchins’ death in a coffee shop confrontation.

The 66-year-old is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Hutchins on the set of Rust in October 2021.

Baldwin was on the phone in a coffee shop when he was accosted by a woman, who repeatedly requested he show support for Palestine and also asked: ‘Why did you kill that lady?’

‘Alec can you please say free Palestine one time? Why did you kill that lady? You killed that lady and got no jail time? No jail time Alec? No jail time Alec?’ she asked, filming him, as he attempted to ignore her.

‘Free Palestine Alec, just one time, and I’ll leave you alone? I’ll leave you alone, I swear. Just say free Palestine one time, one time,’ she pressed, as he got to the door, and asked the coffee shop staff if they were going to call the police.

He waved her out of the coffee shop, but the woman persisted: ‘Please say it, one time. Free Palestine, f**k Zionism, f*** Israel.’

Baldwin then knocked the camera out of the woman’s hand and filming stops.

This comes after the armourer on the set of Rust – Hannah Gutierrez-Reed – was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter on Wednesday after she loaded a gun for Baldwin on the set, which discharged while he was holding it and shot the mother-of-one.

Guttierez-Reed was jailed to await sentencing, which could be up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 (£3,900) fine.

In January 2023, Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter and pleaded not guilty, but this was dismissed without prejudice a few months later.

The charges were refiled a year later and at the time his legal team said they were ‘look[ing] forward to our day in court.’

In court documents, the 30 Rock actor stated: ‘I plead not guilty to all of the charges in the complaint or citation.’

He has always insisted that he was unaware that the weapon was loaded and maintained his innocence but if convicted the dad-of-seven could face up to 18 months in prison.

The woman’s request for Baldwin to say ‘free Palestine’ comes six months into the war in Gaza, in which more than 1,200 Israelis and 30,000 Palestinians – including an estimated 14,500 children – have been killed since the Hamas attack on October 7 last year.

A mass humanitarian crisis has been declared as those Gazans left in the strip are starving and increasingly besieged.
