‘And Just Like That…’ Might be Over, But That Doesn’t Mean Carrie Bradhaw’s Story Is

In August, Michael Patrick King took to Instagram to announce that And Just Like That… was ending after its third season. King claimed it was a perfect place to end. Sarah Jessica Parker penned a tribute to her beloved character of Carrie Bradshaw, and Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis both mourned the end of the series. Fans, even the most critical, were sad to see the story come to an end. Now that the team behind the series has had a chance to step back, they aren’t so sure it was really time to say goodbye. Executive producer Elisa Zuritsky has recently suggested that perhaps the end wasn’t really the end.

Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York’s stories were left open-ended. As the series drew to a close, Carrie was alone, Miranda was navigating the transition to becoming a grandmother, and Charlotte was figuring out exactly what her family was becoming. If we are being fair, the ending of And Just Like That… was anticlimactic. While King claimed in his posting that he intended to end the story there, fans largely assume he’s being prideful. It seems likely that the show was canceled without notice. Irregardless, the way it ended could work in its favor, insists Elisa Zuritsky.

Zuritsky, one of the show’s executive producers, sat down for a chat with <a href=”https://tvline.com/interviews/and-just-like-that-returning-season-4-more-carrie-bradshaw-1235490537/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TVLine last month and insisted that while And Just Like That… has come to an end, Carrie Bradshaw’s story could continue. She told the publication that while King says he is done, he has said it before and returned to Carrie. Zuritsky is so optimistic that she keeps a running list of storylines for the three characters. Still, she contends it’s ultimately up to King, quipping that the entire team “serves at his pleasure.” So far, there are no concrete plans to resurrect the series, which is understandable. After all, it only just recently aired its finale.

And Just Like That… was not well received by fans. There is no way around it. They were critical of it from the start. Reddit users bemoaned everything from the show’s storylines to the home decor that adorned Carrie’s many personal spaces. Twitter and Instagram users complained about the character and the costumes. Still, they love the idea of a reboot. After the cancellation announcement was made, fans flocked to social media to insist that they didn’t want to see Carrie Bradshaw go away; they just wanted the writers to do it better.

The ending of And Just Like That… somehow brought out the softer side of fans. Still, would they watch another series about Carrie Bradshaw? The jury is out on that, but we think it’s safe to assume they’d be willing to sit through another movie, or perhaps, a multi-part special. The interest is there. Whether HBO would sink more money into the characters is a different story.
