Harrison Dossick Scored Big Win For Angelina Jolie in Film Dispute
Deadline reported back in 2011 that Jolie was being sued over allegations that her 2011 film “In the Land of Blood and Honey” had lifted key creative elements from the book “The Soul Shattering” by James J. Braddock. Both projects are set during the Bosnian War. Jolie wrote, produced, and directed the film.
Dossick served as Jolie’s defense lawyer in the case, and in March 2013, E! News reported the actress had come out of the copyright battle victorious.
Angelina Jolie Previously Talked About ‘Honoring Story’ of Bosnian War While Making ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’
In a promotional interview with Extra, Jolie said making sure to honor the subject matter was “the hardest thing” about making the film. She explained, “As heavy as all of it was, the balance of making sure that we talked to everybody, we tried to find balance in a situation and in a conflict where there is very little balance.”
The “Gia” star went on, “War is impossible to understand. This kind of brutality is impossible to analyze and make sense of. So we all tried to make sense of something that is beyond all of our understanding.” The mother of six went on to reveal some of the techniques she and the rest of the team used while working on the movie.
“We talked to each other, and they came together to do this. We shared stories, and we shared out personal experiences,” she said.
Jolie then talked about the film’s screening in Bosnia, and said people’s reaction was “very supportive.” She added, “It’s incredible for all of us.”
The “Maleficent” star also opened up about her inspiration while writing the film. She said, “You can only write from what you know, and I have not lived through war.” She went on to explain she “made it personal” by imagining herself in the characters’ positions.
