Assassin’s Creed fans aren’t happy about DLC microtransactions in Black Flag Resynced, as Ubisoft tries to address the situation.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced might be off to a strong start on Steam, smashing the series’ concurrent player record with almost 100,000 players, but not everyone’s happy.
Black Flag Resynced is a remake of the 2013 game and follows Welsh pirate Edward Kenway on his travels through the West Indies in 1715, during the golden age of piracy. It was the first game in the series to have ship exploration, and is widely regarded as one of the best entries.
The remake boasts updated visuals, new missions, reworked combat, and other additions. However, it doesn’t include the original’s multiplayer mode or the Freedom Cry single-player DLC.
Instead of kicking up a fuss about that, however, some users on Steam are enraged over cosmetic DLC which isn’t included in the standard or deluxe edition of Black Flag Resynced. In total, if you include the two packs in the deluxe edition, there are nine pieces of extra DLC, which cost £76.21 in total (£8.99 each on average) when bought separately.
The majority of these DLC packs are gear for Kenway and his ship, but there’s also a map pack which helps you find the game’s collectibles easier. None of it appears to add anything meaningful to the experience, but some people aren’t happy that they bought the deluxe edition expecting to get the ‘full’ experience.

‘Bought the Deluxe Edition, foolishly thinking I’d be buying the full game,’ one commenter wrote on Steam. ‘Here I was thinking Ubisoft had turned a new leaf, then wham, they hit you with over £75 of additional day one DLC.’
‘What’s the point of getting the deluxe version when, immediately in game, there’s $84.91 worth ‘DLC’ that you don’t own,’ another added. ‘Ubisoft also deleted by Uplay points, so there’s even more I can’t access. Ubisoft who hurt you?!’
Ubisoft has replied to one of the comments which shared a similar complaint. In response, Ubisoft wrote: ‘We’ve seen your feedback since launch, and we’re reading all of it. Thank you for caring this much about Black Flag Resynced.
‘We want to be clear on one point: the standard edition is the full, complete experience. Every mission, every island, the full story and the complete world are all there, with nothing held back. The additional packs are entirely optional extras for players who want them, never a requirement to enjoy or complete the game. We’ll keep listening as you play!’
Despite this uproar, Black Flag Resynced is sitting with a 71% mostly positive rating on Steam, so it’s clearly only bothering a small minority.
While the game appears to be going down well, according to Insider Gaming, 51 developers at Ubisoft Barcelona have been laid off prior to the game’s launch. Employees at the studio are set to strike over the next week to try and overturn the decision.
