Former Great British Bake Off contestant John Mincher has reportedly been charged with ‘making indecent images of a child’.
The 39-year-old baker, who appeared on the 2024 series, appeared at Wolverhampton magistrates court on Friday to plead not guilty.
One charge for making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child was withdrawn at this hearing but the other charge of the same classification remained.
According to The Sun, police found two indecent images of a child on his phone and arrested him in August.
The court reportedly heard that both images were classed as Category A, which is the most serious classification of child sexual abuse material.
Deputy District Judge Kate Harney is said to have told the former star baker that he is accused of ‘incredibly serious offences’.
Mincher, released on conditional bail, is due at Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 16.
The NHS worker won Star Baker and a Hollywood handshake in the first episode of the 15th series. However, he was sent home just two weeks later on bread week.
After Bake Off, he appeared at a handful of events but has largely stayed out of the spotlight.
His social media went quiet after an appearance at Foodies Festival in Nottingham in June 2025, but he reappeared in August to reveal he’d had surgery on his eye.
‘Thought I’d show up on the grid for a change. Dodgy post surgery detached retina eye and all,’ he captioned a selfie.
Weeks later, he shared a post about his birthday with an update on his recovery, writing: ‘Another “first” without my Mom so it was a quiet one.

‘I used to hate thinking about getting old but I’ve realised more than ever it’s a privilege getting old that some aren’t fortunate enough to have.
‘Look close and you can still see my dodgy eye which I still can’t see out of properly, if you see me and you’re on my left… not ignoring you.’
Mincher has not shared anything since or commented publicly on the allegations. He pleaded not guilty in court.
