Barry Keoghan has posted an emotional plea in the midst of swirling rumours about his breakup with Sabrina Carpenter.

The Saltburn actor, 32, deleted his Instagram account today and then took to X to post a statement begging fans to stop harassing him online.

He said that ‘the messages I have received no person should ever have to read them’ and claimed people have been ‘knocking on his grannies door’ and ‘sitting outside my baby boys house intimidating them.’

It’s a deeply emotional statement from the actor, who has remained silent up to this point about his split from pop diva Carpenter, who he dated for a year.

The statement reads in full: ‘I can only sit and take so much. My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond too.

‘I have to respond now because it’s gettin to a place where there are too many lines being crossed. I deactivated my account because I can no longer let this stuff distract from my family and my work. The messages I have received no person should ever have to read them. Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine.

‘Dragging my character and everything I worked extremely hard for and stand for. Talking about how I was a heroine baby and how I grew up and dragging my dear mother into it also. Knocking on my grannies door.
Sitting outside my baby boys house intimidating them. Thats crossing a line.

‘Each and every day I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for that boy. I want to provide opportunities for him to learn, fail and grow. I want him to be able to look up to his daddy, to have full trust in me and know I will have his back no matter what.

‘I need you to remember he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older. Please be respectful to all. Thank u x’

The actor and chart-topping singer, 25, were first romantically linked in December 2023 when they were spotted on a romantic dinner together.

But only a year later, after a much-discussed relationship that included music videos, break-up rumours and social media interactions – it appears the pair may have really split ways.

A source told People: ‘They are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break.’

After reportedly throwing the Espresso hitmaker a surprise 25th birthday party attended by over 100 guests, the pair broke the internet when Barry starred in Sabrina’s music video, Please Please Please as the love interest.

Although the star-studded couple have never explicitly confirmed their romance, there has been reports of relationship trouble since August when People first shared they were ‘on and off’.

One source claimed to The Sun that the music artist was ‘fed up’ with Barry’s behaviour when drunk.

Now, as rumours swirl about why the pair have split, Keoghan has been getting a lot of hate online, with Carpenter fans speculating that he did something to ruin the relationship.

Many X users are sympathising with Keoghan in the replies under the statement, with user @DeeDee84276236 writing: Such a shame, I’m sorry these lonely people take their problems out on you.’

@elordidelrey agreed: ‘You don’t deserve any of this, barry. hope you’re protecting your peace. we’re rooting for you always.’

@clozyoff posted: ‘His son and grandma in the mix?? That’s beyond disgusting.’

While other replies are far less sympathetic, it seems that everyone agrees involving his family members in the drama crossed a line.
