Beloved Baltimore Comedian Reggie Carroll Dies at 52,

Baltimore is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved comedians. Reggie Carroll, known for his fearless stand-up and national touring routines, has died at 52. Carroll was fatally shot in Southaven, Mississippi, on Wednesday, August 20, according to the Southaven Police Department.

Authorities said they responded to a call about a shooting on Burton Lane, where officers and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures before Carroll “succumbed to his injuries.” On Saturday, August 23, police confirmed that “one male is in custody and has been charged with the murder of Reginald Carroll,” adding, “Our thoughts [are] with the family of Mr. Carroll.”

Carroll’s death shocked fans and colleagues alike. The comedian was widely known across the country for his stand-up tours, viral sketches, and television appearances.

According to IMDb, he appeared on a 2000 episode of “Showtime at the Apollo” and produced and hosted the 2023 stand-up special Knockout Kings of Comedy.

He was also performing as part of Katt Williams’ Heaven on Earth Tour at the time of his passing, solidifying his legacy in the comedy world.


Carroll’s Comedy Career & Collaborations

The Baltimore native often collaborated with actress and fellow comedian Mo’Nique. In an Instagram Stories post, the Precious star, 57, remembered Carroll as her “brother in comedy.”

“This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again,” Mo’Nique wrote (As quoted by Deadline).

“The last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together… that’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time. So I have no sad tears because all of our time together was amazing.”

Tributes have poured in from across the comedy community. Carroll’s brother, Jonathan Carroll, thanked fans on Facebook, writing, “To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received — thank you!!!”

Club Mobtown Comedy shared on Instagram, “🕊️ Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family 🙏🏽🙏🏽.”

Fans and friends echoed the sentiment on social media. One wrote, “Baltimore’s own. One of the best comics out there to date… Rest easy. You will be greatly missed, bro. Thanks for keeping us laughing all these years.” Another added, “Rest in Paradise bro. You truly going to be missed. That’s crazy I can hear you in my ear right now saying hey Russ guess what and then say something crazy.”
