Beloved Children’s Television Performer Passes Away & Tributes Pour In

The world is mourning the loss of beloved puppeteer Danny Seagren. The Jim Henson-trained performer was 81, and fans most know him for his work on “Sesame Street” and “The Electric Company.” Now, fans are paying tribute to his legacy on social media.

Per Deadline, Seagren passed away on November 10. There is currently no known cause of death. Seagren was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. However, he spent the bulk of his career in New York City. In additon to his work on “Sesame Street,” he is also known for being television’s first live-action Spider-Man.


Danny Seagren Leaves Behind a Beautiful Legacy

Seagren performed as several characters throughout his legendary career. One of the most notable was his work as Big Bird on “Sesame Street.” Notably, he filled in for Caroll Spinney as the character on several episodes of the long-running series. He also undertook the role for appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and various other live events.

Regarding his work as Spider-Man, Seagren played the character on “The Electric Company.” As mentioned, this marked television’s first live-action depiction of the character.

According to IMDb, Seagren’s credits also include characters on “Miss Peach of the Kelly School,” a show he not only created but also won a 1980 Emmy Award for. “Captain Kangaroo” and “Who’s Afraid of Opera” also feature his work.

In total, his work appeared in 33 episodes of “Sesame Street,” 29 episodes of “Spidey Super Stories,” and 390 episodes of “The Electric Company.”
