Billy Joel appears to be doing better since his brain disorder diagnosis.
One of the directors of the Billy Joel documentary “And So It Goes,” Susan Lacy, opened up about how Joel is doing.
In an interview that aired on Wednesday, July 16, she told “Good Morning America” the “Piano Man” singer is on the mend.
“He’s doing physical therapy, he’s healing, he’s working on getting better,” said said.
While she didn’t say more about Joel’s recovery, she mainly discussed the new documentary that gives fans a rare glimpse into the highs and low over the course of Joel’s personal life and career.
“He’s a savant, and music saved his life,” Lacy added.
Joel Was Diagnosed With a Brain Disorder
The singer announced in May that he was suffering from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, and therefore, would be unable to complete his tour.
He shared with fans how performing was causing his condition to become worse.
“Under his doctorâs instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period,” the statement read at the time. “Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.”Â
Joel had his own message for fans, “Iâm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
Normal pressure hydrocephalus is defined as a “condition that happens when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside your skull and presses on your brain,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Joel’s Wife Previously Wished Him a Happy Father’s Day
Joel has been quiet ever since the news was announced. However, his wife Alexis shared a touching Father’s Day post on his Instagram account.
“This Fatherâs Day is extra special. We are always grateful and thankful but this year really reminded us how lucky we are to have you,” she said in June. “We are so blessed to have such a strong, determined man in our lives.”
She concluded by adding, “you will be rocking out next year.”
Joel has been married to Alexis since 2015. They share two daughters: Della Rose and Remy Anne. He also shares his eldest daughter, Alexa Ray, with his ex-wife Christie Brinkley.

The model concluded her well wishes by adding, “Iâm sure Iâm speaking for everyone in that room when I say please take good care of yourself, we all want you back in that white hot spotlight, youâre OUR piano man.â
