That’s a wrap on the final season of Prime Video‘s Bosch: Legacy.

Season 3 Episode 9, “Badlands,” wrapped up most of the season’s main storylines, including the investigations into the murders of both Jimmy Robertson and the Gallagher family. (Check out <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/bosch-legacy-season-3-episode-9-recap.html/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>our recap here.) As a result, episode 10 mostly functions as a backdoor pilot for the upcoming Ballard spinoff. But “Dig Down” is also a farewell to one of the most enduring characters in recent TV memory. Did the Bosch: Legacy series finale give Harry (Titus Welliver) a fitting ending? And is it possible that we’ll see the ex-LAPD detective again? Keep reading to find out.

With both the Gallagher and Robertson cases wrapped up, the Bosch: Legacy series finale is free to dive into a new case that sets up the upcoming Renée Ballard spinoff.

While driving home after a drink with Maddie (Madison Lintz), Harry realizes he’s being tailed. Ballard (Maggie Q) follows Harry into his office. She flashes a badge and demands the files he’s stolen. It turns out, she’s an LAPD detective looking into the “Flower Girls” murders, and she needs the records back. Harry denies stealing the files, saying he just made copies. But he quickly realizes that the only reason she’d be searching for the case files was if there had been another murder.

Ballard and Harry reluctantly team up to investigate the murder of multiple Filipina sex workers. With some help from tech genius Mo (Stephen A. Chang), they realize an LAPD fireman is the culprit. Beloved Bosch characters Crate (Gregory Scott Cummins) and Barrel (Troy Evans) – who we’ve yet to see this season – are pulled into the investigation. So are Maddie and her partner Reina Vasquez (Denise Sanchez). Together, they’re able to stop the killer before he murders another woman and close the book on several unsolved cases.

Once again, we get a glimpse of Harry on the verge of taking the law into his own hands. He has the suspect on the ground at gunpoint, and Ballard can see that he’s about to make an irreversible decision. With a single word, she gets him to put away his weapon. But as they part ways at the end of the episode, she offers a warning.

“I had an old partner, he used to tell me, ‘When you do this work, you go into the darkness,’” she says. “And I think some of that darkness has gotten into you.”

Our final look at Harry this season is as he walks across the nearly empty plaza across of LA’s city hall. What’s next for the detective? Will he win the fight against the darkness? Or has his commitment to getting justice for victims left him permanently scarred? The finale doesn’t provide any clear answers. That’s frustrating, in a way, but it also fits with Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, which have often dealt in grey areas. Bosch is Bosch, and he’ll also continue to seek justice for those who deserve it, and he’ll always be willing to push boundaries to see that justice is done.

The Legacy finale also doesn’t shed much light on a few storylines that were teased at the end of the season, and which presumably would have been addressed in season 4. That includes Honey Chandler’s tense relationship with the LAPD. There’s also the potential investigation into a shady city councilman who had been drugging (and possibly assaulting) other men.

One thing we do know? This won’t be the last we see of Harry Bosch. Ballard premieres this summer on Prime Video. A teaser confirms what Ballard hinted at in the Legacy finale: that conflict with the LAPD top brass will see her banished to “the Valley,” where she’s assigned to the cold case unit. Harry pops up in a just-released teaser for the new show, suggesting he might help Ballard with one of her cases.
