Brendan Fraser, The Mummy, Rental Family

Brendan Fraser is one of the most beloved actors working today. Of course, much of the adoration he receives is due to his work with “The Mummy” franchise. Now, a new one has been confirmed, and he’s sharing his rare thoughts on it ahead of his other new movie, “Rental Family.”

Fraser spoke about “The Mummy” during a recent interview with The Associated Press. He began, “The one I wanted to make was never made.”

Fraser continued, “I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie. We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck, and gave it our best shot. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”

The Fourth ‘Mummy’ Movie Was Confirmed in November

The third “Mummy” movie, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” was released in 2008. The film had a $145 million budget and grossed over $403 million worldwide. Since its release, there has been a vast fan outcry for a new installment in the franchise.

According to Variety, the fourth “Mummy” movie is in the works as of November 2025. Both Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to return, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known as Radio Silence, set to direct.

Olpin and Gillett are best known for 2019’s “Ready or Not” and the later “Scream” movies. Universal Studios will produce the new “Mummy” movie.

Fraser said in 2022 that he would be open to returning to the role. He stated, “I don’t know how it would work. But I’d be open to it, if someone came up with the right conceit.”

His New Movie Has Strong Reviews

It’s unclear when the fourth “Mummy” movie will go into production. However, Fraser’s latest film, “Rental Family,” arrives in theaters on November 21. So far, it has strong reviews from critics. It holds an impressive 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

One critic said, “The morals behind ‘Rental Family’ aren’t so easy to unpack, and it’s in this complexity that Hikari finds a story truly worth telling.” Someone else wrote, “Fraser is perfectly cast as a gentle and good-natured expat in this touching and funny fish-out-of-water tale. Hikari beautifully showcases the essence of human connection and chosen family.”

Hikari directed “Rental Family,” and in additon to Fraser, it also stars Mari Yamamoto, Takehiro Hira, and Akira Emoto.
