Britney Spears’ representatives have hit back after Kevin Federline claimed she used to stand in their sons’ bedroom doorway, holding a knife as they slept.

In his new memoir, You Thought You Knew, the dancer promised an ‘extremely intimate and transparent’ look at his life, including with the pop superstar.

Britney, 43, and Kevin, 47, were together from 2004 to 2007, tying the knot just three months into dating.

They welcomed sons Sean Preston and Jayden James during their relationship, with a messy custody battle unfolding after their divorce.

In an excerpt seen in The New York Times, Kevin alleged that the boys feared staying at their mum’s home due to her erratic behaviour.

He wrote: They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — “Oh, you’re awake?” — with a knife in her hand. Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.’

In the penultimate chapter, he reportedly added: ‘The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible.’

Kevin claimed the contents of his memoir, which drops three days before the second anniversary of The Woman In Me on October 21, had not been discussed with the singer.

A representative for Britney told Metro: ‘With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.

‘All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.’

In Britney’s book, which is being made into a film directed by Jon M. Chu, she detailed the split from her perspective and claimed Kevin ‘wouldn’t let her in’ to see the boys.

She describes being ‘completely beside [herself] with grief’ and ‘pleading’ and ‘begging’ her ex-husband to let her see her ‘babies’.

Around this time, Britney shaved her head and infamously attacked a paparazzi with an umbrella, both of which she detailed in the memoir, saying she was overwhelmed and at breaking point.

Her relationship with her sons, now 20 and 18, has remained tentative as they continue to live with their dad in Hawaii.

However, they have begun to reconcile with Jayden telling The Daily Mail in 2022 that he ‘100 percent thinks it can be fixed’.

‘It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally,’ he said. ‘When she gets better, I really want to see her again.’

Britney’s mental health has long loomed over the star’s career, with her 13-year conservatorship finally ending in 2021.

Kevin is also said to have touched on this in his memoir, saying the Free Britney movement was more harmful than fans think in another excerpt.

‘It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour,’ he reportedly wrote. ‘Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.’

‘Now, more than ever, [our children] need your support. I’ve been their buffer for years, but now it’s bigger than me. It’s time to sound the alarm.’

In a post after the conservatorship was lifted, Britney dubbed it ‘the best day ever’ and branded the experience as ‘traumatic’ and ‘abusive’.
