Christina Applegate is opening up about the most painful part of living with multiple sclerosis, and it’s watching how it affects her daughter, Sadie. On Tuesdayâs episode of her âMesSyâ podcast, the 53-year-old actress candidly admitted that her ongoing health struggles have been especially hard on the 14-year-old, calling the impact âheartbreaking.â
Applegate Says MS Battle Has âBrokenâ Daughter Sadie

âI see her look at me when Iâm in bed and canât quite move, or I wanna go say goodnight to her in her room, but I canât quite get down the hallway for whatever reason that my legs arenât working that day,â Applegate shared. âRight now I can barely get to bathroom, itâs the worst, but thatâs neither here nor there. Itâs broken her.â
From Active Lifestyle to MS Diagnosis

Applegate reflected on how life looked before her 2021 MS diagnosis. âShe only knew me as healthy, and a runner, and a Pelotoner and a dancer,â she explained.
When her illness emerged, the shift was dramatic. âShe didnât know this. It was like losing the mom she had to this fâking thing. And the more sheâs gotten older now, I think the more itâs hurting her,â she said.
The star also noted the timing made things even harder. âWe had just gone through COVID and no school and all this stuff and now mommy canât do all the things that she used to be able to do and I see it in her eyes. I see it.â
A Daughterâs Strength & Support

Despite the painful reality, Applegate said Sadie continues to show up for her with a lot of resilience and love.
âWhen weâre out, she knows Iâm having such a hard time because I have such anxiety about being out. And sheâs always got my arm,â she revealed. âSheâs always trying to help me through and help me with my cane and all this stuff. At home, sheâs like, âCan you please go down and make my food cause youâre the only one who can make it?ââ
The actress said those small gestures mean everything as she navigates her toughest days.
Applegateâs Ongoing Health Struggles
Since publicly announcing her MS diagnosis in August 2021, the âDead to Meâ star has remained open about her health journey on her podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
Earlier this month, Applegate revealed she was hospitalized with severe pain. On the August 5 episode of âMesSy,â which she recorded from her hospital bed in Los Angeles, she told listeners she had an infection in both kidneys. âIt was so much pain that I was screaming,â she admitted.
While the battle continues, Applegate said she is grateful to have her daughter by her side through it all.
