Comedian Lucy Beaumont’s show Hullraisers is the latest programme to have been axed by Channel 4.

The broadcaster announced it had not recommissioned the comedy just weeks after her split from husband and fellow comic, Jon Richardson, 41.

Hellraisers is one of several shows to have been culled by Channel 4 in recent months as it focuses on driving its streaming growth.

Lucy, 40, co-created the sitcom which starred Leah Brotherhead, Sinead Matthews and Taj Atwal as three female friends living in Hull.

The show examined the hilarious and agonising reality of what it is like to be a working-class woman juggling work, kids and everything else in-between.

Confirming it had cancelled Hullraisers, a spokesperson for Channel 4 said they had been ‘incredibly proud’ it had championed regional voices on and off screen.

‘Hullraisers was widely praised for its celebration of Hull and its authentic representation of Northern working-class women,’ they continued to The Sun.

The spokesperson added: ‘As part of our Fast Forward strategy, we’re focused on giving Channel 4 viewers the best range of programming, innovating with new shows and driving our streaming growth. That means we have to think really carefully about which shows to return, rest, or conclude.

‘We’d like to thank Fable Pictures, the wonderful cast and all those involved in the show’s success over the years and we look forward to working with them again on future projects.’

Metro.co.uk has also contacted Channel 4 for comment.

Lucy previously exclusively told us she was pleased with Hullraisers but nearly walked away from the project due to stress.

She explained: ‘I’ve got the added pressure of “is this what people from Hull want?” Straight away I was scrolling through all the social media. The stress of me being the first person to put Hull on the TV, I honestly thought at one point I was going to just walk away and not bother.

‘It’s mostly older men saying, “The accent’s not right.” I couldn’t believe it when I saw Paul Heaton [from The Beautiful South] had commented on Twitter. I thought, “Oh no, I’ve not got the seal of approval from Paul Heaton. My career is ended”.’

On April 12, Lucy and Jon announced their separation after nine years of marriage.

In a statement to PA, they said: ‘After nine years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated.

‘We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.

‘As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being.’

Hullraisers ran for two seasons in 2022 and 2023. It was co-written by Anne-Marie O’Connor and Caroline Moran.

Hullraisers is available to stream on Channel 4.
