Could a ‘Parent Trap’ Reboot Happen? Lisa Ann Walter Reveals Her One Condition

Lisa Ann Walter isn’t ruling out a return to “The Parent Trap”. The “Abbott Elementary” star, who played the fan-favorite housekeeper Chessy in the 1998 film, says she’d be open to reprising the role — but only under one condition.

Walter told People she would “one-hundred percent” be on board if Nancy Meyers, who directed the beloved remake, were to write the reboot. She also emphasized that any future version should include original cast members Lindsay Lohan and Dennis Quaid, while honoring the memory of Natasha Richardson, who played the twins’ mother, Elizabeth James, and passed away in 2009.

“Dennis [Quaid] has said that he doesn’t think it’s doable without Natasha, and I understand that,” Walter said. “It’s a kids’ story, but it’s a love story. So to have a love story that involves that grief, that sadness — if it was written beautifully, maybe it’s doable.”

Walter believes a reboot would be meaningful for the fans who’ve continued to embrace the film over the years. “People love it. How are you going to not honor them?” she added.

Walter Keeps in Touch With Cast — and Lohan Shares Her Reboot Condition

Elaine Hendrix (L) and Lisa Ann Walter arrive for the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards in Century City, California, on February 26, 2023.

Even decades later, Walter remains close with her former co-stars from “The Parent Trap”. She revealed she speaks with Elaine Hendrix, who played Meredith Blake, “literally every day.” She also keeps in touch with Lohan via Instagram DMs and shared that she once sent homemade meals to Quaid and his family during the pandemic.

Lohan, who portrayed both Hallie and Annie in the 1998 film, is also open to the idea of returning — as long as Nancy Meyers is part of it. During a November 2024 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live”, she responded to a fan question about a potential reboot and said she’d be interested in playing the mom character. “I would never say no to Nancy,” Lohan said, calling the film her “first big break” in Hollywood.

Walter and Hendrix previously leaned into the film’s legacy during the pandemic by hosting a 22nd-anniversary virtual screening on social media. “We are blessed with some of the most dedicated fans of any movie ever — people still dress up as the characters to this day,” Walter said.

Her Role as Chessy Left an Unexpected Mark on Her Sons’ Dating Lives

While “The Parent Trap” continues to hold nostalgic value for fans, Walter says her own children didn’t obsess over it growing up — and sometimes, her role as Chessy had unintended effects. Speaking with People at an “Abbott Elementary” event, she shared that her sons occasionally found her fame more awkward than exciting.

“All of my boys have said that girls have dated them specifically because Chessy is their mom,” Walter said. “So, it might be annoying.”

Walter is a mother of four — daughter Delia, son Jordan, and 24-year-old twins Spencer and Simon. The twins, born on October 11, even share a birthday with Lohan’s characters from the film. Despite the fun coincidence, Walter said her sons preferred other films while growing up.

She also reflected on raising her twins largely on her own. “I had to kind of be the father figure to them because their dad wasn’t as involved,” she said, while acknowledging her older children had more support from their father.
