Todd Snider’s upcoming tour has been cancelled after the country singer was ‘the victim of a violent assault’.
The American singer, 59, released his debut album Songs for the Daily Planet in 1994, since going on to release a further 19 records.
Last week he kicked off his High, Lonesome and Then Some… 2025 Tour in Englewood, Colorado, before travelling to Salt Lake City in Utah for his next show.
However, a statement released on his social media pages have since announced the plug had to be pulled on the rest of his upcoming shows after he was targeted in an attack.
‘We are heartbroken to announce the cancellation of the High, Lonesome and Then Some 2025 Tour dates,’ it began.
‘Ahead of Todd Snider’s show in Salt Lake City, Todd sustained severe injuries as the victim of a violent assault outside of his hotel.
‘Todd will be unable to perform for an undetermined amount of time. We deeply apologise for the cancellation and any inconvenience it causes.’
It concluded: ‘We appreciate your understanding as Todd receives needed medical treatment. We hope to have more information on new dates soon.’
However soon after the announcement, it was reported that the singer had been arrested in Salt Lake City and released a few hours later.
According to Salt Lake County jail records, as per People, the singer arrested on Sunday, November 2 at 7.10pm and released just before 3:00am the next day.
He was released on no recognisance, meaning he was not required to pay bail but did sign a promise to appear in court.
NBC reported that Salt Lake City police confirmed that they were investigating ‘an alleged assault of a 59-year-old male at the Commonwealth Room’ on Saturday, the venue where Snider had been set to perform.
The singer was then treated at Holy Cross Hospital and discharged, allegedly against his will, on Sunday, they said.
Police went on to explain that Snider had initially been discharged and left the hospital but returned to ‘air grievances’, before being arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, trespassing and making a violent threat.
‘He returned to the hospital and made threats that he was going to assault members of the staff,’ Salt Lake City police Detective Michael Ruff said.
Snider had been scheduled to perform subsequent shows in cities including Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.
He’d previously taken a three-year break from touring after suffering health complications due to spinal stenosis, a condition which puts pressure on the spinal cord and causes back and neck pain.
He recently spoke to Rolling Stone about returning to the stage after a lengthy absence.
‘I told my team that I want this tour to be the funnest one. I at least want to do it one more time,’ he explained.
‘After that, I may just have to do one show at a time, but that’s been coming for a while.
‘I’ve got this arthritic s*** they call [spinal] stenosis, which makes it painful all over. I do a lot of things to try to help it, but I have to make peace with it, too. Which hasn’t been easy.’
