Diane Keaton’s Final Film Performance

Diane Keaton

The world first became familiar with Diane Keaton as her eccentric “Annie Hall” character and the tormented Kay Adams in “The Godfather” trilogy. She would go on to give us 75 more memorable performances before her death at 79 on October 11, 2025.

It seems impossible to believe that the exuberant, quirky, and lively actress has passed away. In the past year, she put out a music album and starred in two films. Her very last film saw her co-starring with Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, and Eugene Levy in 2024’s “Summer Camp.”

Diane Keaton Led Heartwarming Ensemble for Seniors

One of our favorite genres featuring Diane was ensemble dramas and comedies. Whether as Annie in “The First Wives Club” alongside Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler, or Nina Banks in “Father of the Bride,” she excelled when she got to play off other actors. Her final film, co-starring several other incredibly talented actors, put her in her element.

In “Summer Camp,” Keaton played Nora, who had been best friends with Ginny (Bates) and Mary (Woodard) since they met in summer camp as kids. The 70-something-year-old women get the opportunity to stay at the summer camp one more time and decide to do it.

The film received generally negative reviews from critics, but many viewers found it more enjoyable.

“Love the main characters,” one fan wrote. “I will watch anything they make. The movie was cute & heartwarming. I like movies with aging ladies (probably because I am one & the writers and directors show we still have a lot of life left in us).”

“This movie is ideal for Seniors to enjoy,” wrote another. “Many parts of the film reflect retired life. very enjoyable.”

“Summer Camp” is currently available on Disney+/Hulu.

Castille Landon, who directed “Summer Camp,” admitted to Slug Mag that she got the idea for the film after watching Diane Keaton in 2018’s “Book Club.” Similar to “Summer Camp,” a group of lifelong friends reconnect and bond. Instead of summer camp, it’s over a book. Co-starring Candice Bergen, Jane Fonda, and Mary Steenburgen, the film got a sequel in 2023. “I wrote Nora with Diane in mind,” Landon said.
