Actress Diane Keaton tragically passed away on October 11, 2025 at age 79, and here’s a look back at the relationship history through the years. Keaton had three main Hollywood relationships, all with actors she worked with on her various blockbuster and award-winning movies.
Diane Keaton’s Marriage History

Interestingly, Keaton never got married. A few years ago, Keaton mused on her singleness in an interview with People, saying, âIâm 73 and I think Iâm the only one in my generation and maybe before who has been a single woman all her life.â
In a discussion with Lisa Kudrow for Interview in 2021, Keaton detailed some of her reasoning behind remaining an unmarried woman, large attributing the decision to her mother. Keaton said her parents were in love, but she “saw how much [her mom] gave up” in having children. “I feel like she chose family over her dreams,” Keaton said. While she loved her mother and thinks she did a great job, Keaton “didnât want to give up [her] independence.”
In the same Interview article, Keaton noted no one had ever asked her to marry them. “That might be a good answer,” she said. “I shouldâve started with that and called it a day.”
Although she never married, Keaton did have two children, whom she adopted in her 50s, per People.
Diane Keaton’s Relationship With Al Pacino
Keaton first met Al Pacino while working on “The Godfather,” which first came out in 1972. They were both relatively unknown actors at the time, and their chemistry was evident from the beginning. In 2013, Keaton told The Telegraph, “I was really very taken with Al from the very beginning.”
However, Keaton and Pacino’s relationship didn’t start until they filmed their second movie together, “The Godfather: Part II” in 1974. According to Keaton, the two had a great relationship, telling People in 2017, “I was mad for him. Charming, hilarious, a nonstop talker. There was an aspect of him that was like a lost orphan, like this kind of crazy idiot savant. And oh, gorgeous!”
Keaton and Pacino’s relationship ultimately ended when Keaton insisted on marriage and Pacino couldn’t commit.
Diane Keaton & Warren Beatty’s Relationship

According to Variety, Keaton dated filmmaker Warren Beatty around the time they were shooting “Reds” together, which Beatty both directed, wrote, and starred in alongside Keaton.
Their relationship didn’t last long, but Keaton still spoke fondly of the filmmaker years later. “He is curious about everyone. He is so seductive in that regard. He makes you feel like you are the only one, the person that matters; that you are just absolutely fascinating, you know?” she said in 2016.
Diane Keaton’s Relationship With Woody Allen

Keaton and Woody Allen may be famously linked due to their work in the Oscar-winning romantic comedy “Annie Hall,” but the two were also linked romantically in the early 1970s. In fact, according to the WGA, Allen used details from his and Keaton’s real lives in writing “Annie Hall.” In fact, Keaton’s original last name was Hall, inspiring the name of the titular character.
According to People, Keaton and Allen were still friends in 2017, and she would still get dinner with him and his wife when they were in the same city. âI have dinner with Woody and [his wife] Soon Yi whenever I go to New York. I pick up the check, thatâs how generous I am,” she said.
