A Spider-Man screening was forced to be abandoned after one audience member’s ‘rancid fart’.
Spectators at a showing of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the Plaza Bocagrande cinema in Cartagena, Colombia, on August 2 reportedly fled the auditorium after the overpowering smell filled the room.
Footage shared online appears to show dozens of people – including one person in a Spidey suit – covering their noses and mouths as they walked out into the corridors following the interruption.
While it is still unclear what exactly caused the foul smell, some cinema-goers have claimed that it may have been a prank involving a stink bomb instead of flatulence.
Reacting to the viral clip online, one user called @lopesmorrenofim joked: ‘To ruin a whole cinema like that, only God knows what that person ate.’
Meanwhile, another called @alkl745 added: ‘Imagine paying for a ticket and sitting waiting for a movie for months, and in the end, someone comes along and ruins the experience for an entire hall because of a stupid move.’

@Soul2031 also wrote: ‘To this extent, the whole hall got messed up. This isn’t just a little thing, it’s like chemicals.’
Cinema staff said that they did not identify who was responsible for the smell.
While the screening was not officially cancelled, many audience members did not choose to return to their seats. The cinema, however, has continued to operate normally.
The latest Spider-Man films, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, sees Tom Holland return as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya and newcomer Sadie Sink.
In her review, she said: ‘Brand New Day has proven my Spidey senses were overcome by scepticism, for the film strips things back a bit to allow its heart and soul – Tom Holland as Spider-Man – to really shine.’
