DJ Martin Garrix has been forced to scrap his upcoming shows after an ‘unexpected’ surgery left him needing to focus on his health.

Martin, 29, shared a snap of himself in a hospital gown on Instagram, revealing he had appendicitis.

He announced he had to pull out of Festival International Del Globo in Mexico on Saturday after doctors advised him to rest after surgery.

‘Dear Mexico 🇲🇽💔,’ the Animals hitmaker began. ‘I’m truly heartbroken to share that due to an unexpected case of appendicitis and the surgery that followed, I’m unable to perform at the Festival International Del Globo this Saturday.

‘My doctors and team have strongly advised me to rest and recover to avoid any post-surgery complications.’

In the picture, the DJ seemed in good spirits as he posed with his hands in peace signs and smiled for the camera.

Appendicitis causes swelling and inflammation of the appendix, leading to intense pain in the stomach.

Surgery is required as a ruptured appendix can be life-threatening, so it is usually removed immediately.

Just two weeks before, the Dutch DJ performed at Colorado’s Red Rocks venue with U2 icon Bono turning up to watch the show.

Martin explained that this was not a decision he ‘made lightly’, adding that he has ‘some of my favourite memories ever performing in this incredible country’.

He continued: ‘Thank you so much for your understanding, love and support. A good reminder for me that I’m human too, and my body needs some extra time to properly heal.

‘Sending lots of love — I’ll be back soon, I promise.’

The day festival, due to take place on November 15, included Martin, Dimitri Vegas and Afrojack.

Martin was set to headline the ‘Dream Nite’ event, having risen to fame at an early age after being discovered by Tiesto.

His biggest hit, Animals, was released in 2013, and his follow-up tracks Scared To Be Lonely and In The Name of Love also saw chart success.

He’s worked with various DJs, including David Guetta, and artists such as Bebe Rexha, Troye Sivan, Dua Lipa and Usher.

Martin was ranked the number one DJ in the world by DJ Mag for three conscutive years in a row from 2016 to 2018.
