‘Doctor Who’ Writer Teases Episode Fans Haven’t Seen Yet

Mark Gatiss, David Tennant

Writer, Mark Gatiss, is no stranger to the Whoniverse, but it seems like one of his most intriguing adventures is still hiding in the TARDIS archives. Yep, you read that right; there’s a fully written 10th Doctor episode out there that never made it to air. And unsurprisingly, it seems like fans may not be done hoping for it just yet.

Gatiss, who gave us iconic episodes like “The Crimson Horror,” “The Unquiet Dead,” and “Victory of the Daleks,” recently shared a little behind-the-scenes gem that is sure to have “Doctor Who” fans buzzing. Let’s be real: anytime someone mentions David Tennant, the fandom collectively sits up straighter. But knowing there is an un-produced script out there… that’s just teasing us all.

So what exactly happened to this mysterious story? Read on to find out.

The Lost 10th Doctor Adventure

In a conversation with RadioTimes, Gatiss revealed that his unproduced episode, titled “The Suicide Exhibition,” was this close to happening back in the late 2000s. According to him, it was “on the verge of production for a while” but never actually got made. Honestly? The heartbreak is real.

He didn’t just pitch the idea; he actually wrote two drafts. “One set in the First World War, then Nazis… I just moved a war on,” he said. The premise sounds like peak Gatiss in the best way possible: a British Museum adventure with shades of “Indiana Jones.” Basically, something Tennant’s era would’ve absolutely crushed.

And here’s the part that’ll have fans screaming into the void: Gatiss says he still has the script.

When asked whether he still owned a copy, he simply replied, “I do.” Big Finish, the audio drama powerhouse that often resurrects Whoniverse content (like the 9th Doctor stories below) has already expressed interest. But for now, Gatiss says it’s all “gone very quiet,” joking that he’s just “waiting for that emergency phone call!” Let’s hope that call comes sooner rather than later, because it seems like fans would be all over this one.

More ‘Doctor Who’ Is On the Way

The good news? Even if “The Suicide Exhibition” stays tucked away for now, the Whoniverse isn’t slowing down one bit.

According to BBC, a new spin-off series, “The War Between the Land and the Sea,” is officially set to debut December 7, 2025 on BBC One, with BBC iPlayer streaming the limited series. Sadly Disney+ viewers will have to wait a bit longer. It’s expected on the streaming platform sometime in 2026, giving everyone plenty to look forward to as the universe continues expanding.

And because “Doctor Who” fans love a holiday tradition, BBC’s Director of Drama, Lindsay Salt, confirmed “Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026,” in an October 2025 announcement. Salt also added that “the Doctor is not going anywhere,” promising that the network “will be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.”

That’s right; the future of “Doctor Who” is looking bright, chaotic, and delightfully timey-wimey.
