‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’ Dad Deon Derrico Addresses Show’s Future: ‘No Longer Filming With TLC’

<p id=”par-1_6″>The Derrico family is moving on. </p>

<p id=”par-2_64″>On November 1, Deon Derrico took to social media to share a major <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/doubling-down-with-the-derricos-star-deon-derrico-speaks-out-family-drama.html/”><em>Doubling Down With the Derricos</em></a><em> </em>update. Going forward, his family’s reality series will no longer air on TLC, the dad of 14 announced. But that doesn’t mean they’re giving up on TV. The Derricos are <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/doubling-down-with-the-derricos-dad-teases-new-tv-show.html/”>talking with other networks</a> who might be interested in airing a sixth season of the show. </p>

<p id=”par-3_48″>“The Derricos are no longer signed with TLC,” Deon said in the video posted to <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DQh-reFElD-/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram</a>. “We have no obligation to TLC as of today. I have been waiting all this time to share this with y’all. I am super excited that we are officially out of contract.”</p>

<p id=”par-4_34″>Deon stressed that even though <em>Doubling Down With the Derricos </em>would not be back for season 6, the show had not been officially canceled. Rather, the family chose to cut ties with the network.</p>

<p id=”par-5_24″>“TLC did not cancel us. We chose to no longer go forward with filming for TLC. That was totally done by us,” Deon said. </p>

<p id=”par-6_21″>“We are no long filming with TLC,” he said. “We have several other networks that we have been in talks with.”</p>

<p id=”par-7_17″>He added: “We are definitely coming back with the Derricos but it will not be on TLC.”</p>

<p id=”par-8_14″>Deon emphasized that there were no hard feelings between his family and the network.  </p>

<p id=”par-9_25″>“TLC was great,” he said. “We love TLC. We’re still gonna watch TLC. We just won’t be watching <em>Doubling Down With the Derricos </em>on TLC.”</p>

<h2 class=”wp-block-heading” id=”h-new-derrico-family-show-will-have-a-new-name”>New Derrico family show will have a new name</h2>

<p id=”par-10_25″>In addition to changing networks, there will be one other major change if the Derrico family returns to TV: a new name for their show. </p>

<p id=”par-11_30″>“TLC owns <em>Doubling Down With the Derricos. </em>Let me be clear, they own that name. We don’t own that name. So the show will have a new name,” Deon explained.</p>

<p id=”par-12_15″>A fresh reality series would also have a slightly different focus than the original show. </p>

<p id=”par-13_37″>“Get ready for the new and improved Derricos,” he said. “There’s so many things where we wanted to go a certain way on TLC and their vision and our vision just sort of separated a little bit.”</p>

<p id=”par-14_54″>One issue had to do with <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/doubling-down-with-the-derricos-shocker-karen-deon-derrico-divorce.html/”>Deon’s 2024 split from his wife, Karen</a>. He wasn’t happy with how TLC shared that news with the public, and he was frustrated that they wanted to pick up filming in the immediate aftermath of the split. The family wanted to take a break, which TLC “didn’t like.”</p>

<p id=”par-15_60″>Meanwhile, Deon said he and his wife were “being contacted by many other networks.” The family felt they could get a better deal elsewhere, one which might include things like an executive producer credit for him and Karen. But they had to ride out a nine-month non-compete clause in their contract, which was tough to do in the current economy.  </p>

<p id=”par-16_18″>“I felt like they should have been more compassionate,” Deon said of the restrictions in the network’s contract.  </p>

<p id=”par-17_15″>The new show would be a more honest look at his family’s life, he added. </p>

<p id=”par-18_31″>“There’s so much you guys didn’t see…,” Deon said. “[TLC] didn’t do a great job in the authenticity of our story … I want you to see everything we went through.”</p>
