EA Sports FC 27 release date leaks and it’s still coming to PS4

This should cheer some people up after that England’s World Cup loss (EA)

Call Of Duty may be leaving PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners behind this year, but EA’s next football game won’t be following suit and is even still planned for Switch 1.

Despite being over a decade old, some publishers continue to release new video games for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, although there are clear efforts to force the remaining stragglers to upgrade to current hardware.

Not only is GTA 6 exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but this year’s Call Of Duty game is skipping PlayStation 4 and Xbox One too, meaning fans will need to buy a modern console if they want to keep up with the series.

This got some people wondering if EA’s own annual franchise, EA Sports FC, will be current gen-only going forward but, according to a new leak, this year’s entry will still be available on older consoles when it launches this September.

What is the EA Sports FC 27 release date?

According to Dealabs’ billbil-kun, who has a flawless track record when it comes to retail leaks, EA Sports FC 27 is scheduled to launch on September 25, which isn’t that surprising as previous entries have launched late September as well.

The game will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch as well as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

EA still committing to a Switch 1 version is especially surprising, as the launch of the Switch 2 last year meant Nintendo fans could finally play yearly iterations of EA’s football game that has feature parity with the other versions.

Clearly, EA thinks that locking EA Sports FC 27 to current gen consoles will only result in less players and thus less opportunities to make money through game sales and microtransactions.

It’s not as if current gen consoles have become any more affordable since launch. Far from it, in fact. The PlayStation 5, even at its cheapest, is £519.99 nowadays as opposed to its original £449.99 launch price.

The Xbox Series X, meanwhile, is scheduled to go up in price on August 1 and although we still don’t have exact UK prices, both the digital and physical models are expected to become about £100 more expensive. So, you’re looking at price tags of roughly £549.99 (digital) and £599.99 (physical).

Even the Switch 2 stands to be impacted although, again, there’s no word on its new UK price. Based on the US’ price rise, you’re looking at an increase of about £35 to £429.99.

Dealabs also claims that a premium edition of EA Sports FC 27 will come with the usual early access period, starting over a week beforehand, on September 17. The price will apparently be the same as last year, which means £69.99 for the standard version.

In addition, Dealabs makes a point to say that physical PlayStation and Xbox copies will include the game on a disc, an obvious reference to how Sony plans to abandon support for physical games after 2027.

EA Sports FC 27 is also rumoured to bring back Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ultimate Edition’s box art (EA)
