HBO aired what was labeled as the “Euphoria” season 3 finale on May 31, with an almost two-hour episode. However, following its end, the network confirmed that it was indeed the series finale of the Zendaya-led show, in which she starred as Rue Bennett. Now, creator Sam Levinson is reflecting on the tragic way the series concluded.

Levinson appeared on the official New York Times podcast, “Popcast,” following the end of “Euphoria.” In the interview, the creator confirmed that the show was over, despite not being labeled a series finale.

During the interview, the podcast host said to Levinson, “So that’s it? ‘Euphoria’ ends here?” After that, he confirmed that this was indeed the case and that there would not be a season 4 of “Euphoria.” According to him, “In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me.”

From there, he shared more thoughts on the show and why the tragic end of Zendaya’s Bennett character was necessary despite being so tragic. He continued, calling the eight-year experience with “Euphoria” a “safiafying journey.”

Levinson added, “I’m just immensely proud of the work we did. The story we told and, you know, it’s a tragic one in the end, but it’s also the truth.” He then stated that the show’s finale was a way to honor Angus Cloud, who passed away in July 2023 from a drug overdose.

Now, following his commentary, fans are reacting to not only what Levinson said but to the end of the show in general. One person on X wrote, “End of an era. Euphoria had the culture in a chokehold for years.”

Another fan said, “It’s been one hell of a journey. Absolute Cinema.” Someone else wrote, “I would hope it’s the final season. Without Rue/Zendaya, there is no ‘Euphoria.’”

Lastly, another person reflected on how the television landscape has changed. According to them, “8 years for 3 seasons with 8 episodes each is diabolical.”

Season 3 of “Euphoria” premiered in April 2026. While appearing on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Zendaya told the actress and host that season 3 may be the end of “Euphoria.” When asked if this was the case, she responded on the daytime talker, “I think so, yeah.”

She added, “Yes, I think so,” before teasing closure, stating, “That closure is coming.” Likewise, Levinson spoke to Variety in April 2026 about the show following Zendaya’s comments. Regarding his process, he told the outlet that he approaches “every season like it’s the last season” in regard to writing. He also confirmed he had “no plans” for a “Euphoria” season 4.

He also said at the time, “I want to finish this as strong as I can. I’m cutting [Episodes] 7 and 8 still. I’m putting some finishing touches. I just want to deliver a slam dunk season.”
