Sony has opted to pull God Of War Laufey out of a crowded February but it’ll still launch before the plug is pulled on physical PlayStation 5 games.
It seemed like God Of War Laufey was safely locked in for its February 16 launch, considering Sony opened pre-orders a couple of months ago.
Something has clearly changed since then as developer Santa Monica Studio has announced that it’s pushing the release date back.
The good news is that it’s not a particularly long delay, so it’ll still launch before Sony kills off physical PlayStation games after 2027.
When is the new God Of War Laufey release date?
God Of War Laufey will now be launching three months later than planned on May 20, 2027. As for why it’s being delayed, Santa Monica doesn’t offer any tangible explanation, only suggesting that the game requires extra polishing.

‘Since the reveal of God Of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen,’ reads an X post from the studio.
‘We don’t take for granted the trust placed in our studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God Of War Laufey’s release to May 20, 2027.
‘We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.’
For what it’s worth, the game’s original launch month was looking quite busy. Not only would God Of War Laufey have been competing with Microsoft’s Fable, which was due out just a week later, but also the remakes of the original Tomb Raider and Persona 4.
By comparison, May is currently far quieter, although, coincidentally, God Of War Laufey will be launching the same day as the Persona 4 remake’s Switch 2 version.
Judging by responses online, most people don’t seem fussed by the delay, telling Santa Monica to take all the time it needs so it ‘can cook’ and make the game the best it can be.
This does now mean there’s a wider gap between Sony’s planned PlayStation 5 exclusives for 2027. Originally, God Of War Laufey was going to drop just one month after Until Dawn 2, which is still scheduled to launch on January 28.
Sony also plans to publish Chinese action game Daba: Land Of Water Scar and the Kena: Bridge Of Spirits sequel next year, although neither of them has an exact release date.
Additionally, it’s believed Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is aiming to come out in 2027, although that’s never been confirmed. It was also recently rumoured that Days Gone studio Sony Bend is preparing to reveal a new game.
