GTA 5 did have story DLC but it got cancelled reveals actor

Work had progressed far enough with GTA 5’s single-player DLC that Trevor’s voice actor worked on it, even though it was never released.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be 11 years old this autumn, but despite being the most successful traditional video game of all time, and appearing on three separate generations of console, unlike its predecessor it’s never had any single-player DLC.

It does seem clear that it was originally planned but when GTA Online turned out to be a much bigger success than expected, Rockstar Games turned all their attentions towards producing DLC for it and gave up on making anything for the story campaign.

Or at least that’s what everyone’s assumed for years. Now, however, there seems to be real evidence that development was started and then stopped, as Trevor actor Steven Ogg claims to have worked on it.

References to single-player DLC were found in the leaked source code of the game, from the infamous Rockstar hack last year, but while it seemed to prove that an expansion was planned it also implied it had been cancelled.

That’s what Ogg has said too, stating in a recent Q&A that, ‘Trevor was gonna be undercover – he works for the feds.’

‘And we did shoot some of that stuff with ‘James Bond Trevor’ – he’s still kind of a f*** up, but he’s doing his best to pretend to be like [a secret agent]. We shot some stuff and then it just disappeared and [Rockstar] never did it, they never followed up on it,’ reports The Loadout.

According to the datamined information, Trevor would’ve ended up using a jetpack, which was no doubt a nod to James Bond film Thunderball.

The jetpack, and probably other elements from the planned expansion, were reused in the Doomsday Heist mission for GTA Online, which makes it even less likely that the DLC will ever be released.

It’s thought that three DLC expansions were originally intended for the story campaign, but there’s little evidence as to what the other two would’ve involved – although many fans suspect one involved aliens, given the numerous references and Easter eggs.

It still seems bizarre that despite its age, and all the money it’s brought in, GTA 5 will never get any story DLC, but rumours suggest that GTA 6 intends to have old school single-player DLC.

Even if that rumour is true though, that was also the intention for GTA 5 and in the end it just never happened…
