Hallmark actor and model, Dayle Haddon, has died aged 76 after suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Canadian screen star, who rose to prominence in the 70s and 80s, was found dead in her son-in-law’s (actor Marc Blucas) home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania on Friday, per NBC10 in Philadelphia.

Local authorities were first alerted after an unidentified man, 76, was spotted unconscious on the floor of a detached in-law suite on Friday morning.

Haddon was discovered on the second floor of the same home and pronounced dead at the scene after an attempt to revive her.

Police told local news outlets that a faulty boiler was a suspected source of the carbon monoxide leak after firefighters noted high levels of the deadly fumes in the property.

‘The initial readings on EMS and fire company arrival were extremely high, so we’re treating this as a carbon monoxide poisoning incident,’ Detective Sergeant Jonathan Koretzky of the Solebury Township Police Department said.

Two paramedics were also reportedly taken to the hospital after being present on the property, per the Mail.

Carbon monoxide is a gas that can make you seriously ill (and even prove fatal) if inhaled, per the NHS website. The odourless gas produces symptoms including a headache, dizziness, feeling sick, weak, confusion, chest and muscle pain and shortness of breath.

Appliances such as gas boilers, coal fires and portable generators can produce deadly leaks if not maintained properly.

Born in Quebec in 1948, Haddon started acting in the 70s and appeared in two films with Hollywood star Nick Nolte: Madame Claude (1977) and North Dallas Forty (1979) and starred in Woody Allen movie Bullets Over Broadway in 1994.

She also worked as a model all her life, becoming the face of makeup brands such as Estée Lauder, L’Oréal, Max Factor and Revlon.

As well as being included in Harper’s Bazaar’s Ten Most Beautiful Women list twice and covering the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 1973.

Her son-in-law Blucas is best known for playing Riley Finn in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and, more recently, for his stint in a string of Hallmark movies. He shares two children with his journalist wife Ryan Haddon.

In recent years, Haddon has focused her efforts on philanthropy with her nonprofit WomenOne which ‘envisions a world where every woman and girl has access to a quality education’.
