As of April 11, 2025, he was recuperating at home, per a MailOnline exclusive report.
Nick Moran’s Friend Says Actor’s Neck Pain Quickly Became Potentially Fatal
The report says Terry Stone, a podcast host who is friends with the actor, told the Mail that Moran thought he simply had pain in his neck, but it was quickly found to be a life-threatening condition.
“Nick’s girlfriend was saying, ‘You’ve got to get it checked out,’” the report quotes Stone as explaining. But Stone said Nick just wanted to “put some deep heat on it.” The Mail says Stone told them when Moran went to see a doctor for the excruciating pain, he was sent directly to A&E and told he needed immediate surgery to save his life.
According to Stone’s account of the ordeal, doctors told Moran he could have been left paralyzed and unable to speak if he had delayed any longer. Stone also said the dangerous surgery “cut into his spine and removed four bones from his neck.”
Stone said after Moran awoke from the surgery, he was grateful to see his friend alive. “He’s not in the best of health, but when he came out of the operation, I was like ‘thank god,’ because I think he’d decided he’d rather not walk or talk than die,” the podcaster revealed.
On April 12, 2025, People published a statement from a representative for the actor that reads, “Nick had surgery a little over a week and a half ago and is home walking, talking and making a full recovery.” The rep also said the actor wants to “thank all his well-wishers and assure them he is well and appreciative of their support.”
Shortly before the frightening incident, Moran filmed an episode of Stone’s podcast, “Criminal Connections,” which premiered April 13.
Nick Moran Played Fan-Favorite Villain in Two ‘Harry Potter’ Films
Moran’s character in the “Harry Potter” franchise is Scabior, a villain who appears in both movie installments of “The Deathly Hallows.” The character takes on a larger role in the films than he played in the novel, and has been much-discussed by online fan groups.
One Reddit user expressed appreciation for the character by creating a discussion titled “Can we have a moment of appreciation for Scabior in DH2?” The fan believes Scabior has admirable qualities despite being an antagonist, and cited the fact that he “leads by example” as one such trait. “When he suspects the dissolve shield around Hogwarts has come down, he does not send any minions to test his theory. No sir, he himself puts his best foot forward, literally risking life and limb to see if it is safe to pass,” the fan wrote.
Moran’s other notable acting projects include the 1998 film “Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels” and the 2001 action adventure “The Musketeer.”
