Golden Globes winner Sally Kirkland has entered hospice care amid a dementia battle.

The 84-year-old Hollywood icon – who was diagnosed with the degenerative condition, which causes a decline in thinking, memory, and reasoning skills, in 2024 – has been hospitalised in Palm Springs, California.

Kirkland has struggled with ‘two separate life-threatening conditions’, according to a GoFundMe page set up by pals to raise money for ‘urgent medical care’ needs.

An update on the page from friends on Friday said: ‘Thank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love.

‘Sally is in hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally.’

Her representative Michael Greene confirmed to the Daily Mail that she was diagnosed with dementia in 2024, and she is now in a Palm Springs hospital.

Michael is travelling from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, to see Sally, and said she ‘will not go until I’m holding her hand’.

The crowdfunding page for Sally also mentioned that Kirkland has ‘fractured her four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip’ this past year.

The Anna star, who has also appeared in the likes of Bruce Almighty, JFK, The Haunted and the original Charlie’s Angels series, has her close friend Coty Galloway by her side.

Sally’s friends Coty, Paige Dylan and Mel England set up the GoFundMe page to help support Sally’s urgent care expenses, and so far over $58,000 has been raised of a $65,000 target.

Their statement on the site read: ‘As a result, today, she finds herself facing a significant health crisis – one that has not only affected her well-being but also requires urgent and quality medical care that she can no longer afford.’

They added: ‘This past year, Sally fractured her four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip. While recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections.

‘The combination of these injuries and infections have required extensive hospitalisations and rehab beyond the 100 days insurance will cover.

‘As the days pass, lack of proper care greatly diminishes Sally’s chance of a full recovery.

‘However, with the right medical support, we know she has a strong chance of overcoming this setback and returning to the work she loves.”

They went on to encourage people to donate to help Sally, saying: ‘We are humbly asking for your support, in any amount you can offer, to ensure she gets the treatment she needs at this crucial time in her health journey.

‘Every donation, no matter the size, will help bring her one step closer to recovery and, we hope, back to doing what she loves most — acting.’
